It is very common, and it is all about price. Some charge $25 or less plus the $25 dros charge, some a lot more. Shop around, and if it is a handgun make sure it is on the approved list. If you posted your location you would probably get some exact advice.*REMOVE THIS PART BEFORE POSTING* -
First, make sure the gun you buy is on the approved list. They are a little way from you, but Roger and Lisa at Roger's Relics in Santa Clara are very nice folks. They charge $50.00 plus the $25.00 DROS for a hand gun so $75.00 total. I have brought in a number of guns from all over the US through them and every time it has been smooth and easy._________________________________Originally posted by KestryllYou're boned.

No, I haven't had any experience with them. You will also need a Handgun Safety Card of course.

Impactguns.com are OK people to deal with. Their prices aren't the greatest but they do a good job. I've only dealt with them personally a couple times but handled local transfers from them.
Also recommend Roger's Relics for transfers. I send a lot of transfers out there and have never heard bad things about them.Comment

Diablo Valley Gun Works is good, but check their transfer price first. May be less for handguns but the long gun they transferred for me was a bit expensive.TheNekoComment
