M60, was there ever a time.

Was there ever a time you could walk into your local gun shop and buy one of these Machine guns, if so when was it and how much did they cost.

Anyone here actually owned one or fired one?

Outside of California were could one go to gain hands on experience of shooting one of these.

Prior to 1986 all that was required for NFA weapons was a $200 tax stamp and NFA paperwork, otherwise they weren't significantly different from any other new gun. Not sure exactly what they cost back in the day, but nowhere near the current prices. I've heard they weren't even in extremely high demand at the time, since a lot of people think the M60 is one of the worst modern belt-fed machine guns. There are some gun shops in the Vegas area that rent machine guns, that would probably be your best bet.

Be ready to spend some money if you do. LVGR is something like $2 per round + $50 gun rental per weapon..

I was at Cabelas in Reno a couple months ago and they had an M60 in the gun room for $15,000.

M240 is so much better of a wepon. Dont bother with the 60.

Lord it had to be! 10k for the Pig in F/A is crazy cheap.

I played with a Semi unit many years ago, I tried to talk the guy into selling
it but he knew better.

You can buy a Ca legal one in semi if you really want it.

The last one I saw listed somewhere was around $60K for a pre 86 full auto as I recall.

Yeah, I guess as long as you add a fin or something to the pistol grip, you're good to go using 10 round links.

If I had 5 figures to spend on an MG I would walk right past the M60 and grab the MG-42. The M60 was called "the Pig" for some good reasons. Heavy, could be assembled wrong, anodized cover wore off to a shiny siver, rubber covered pistol grip wore off,......
