Well just got back from Front Sight. The class was fantastic. I went with my other half (The Nomadd on Calguns) and a good friend of ours. I learned a lot of great information on defensive handgun tactics. On the fourth day they did a shoot off with the students on each range. Basically they took all the names of the students on that range, then drew two names. The set up was shoot a head shoot of a hostage taker (three in square area), then the left target then right target in that order. They used steal plates for the targets. So they call Nomadd's name then mine. First thing that went through my head is he will win. So we get up there. I am not fast at shooting at all. So they give the go command. I line up my front sight and take the shot to the hostage taker and get it. Then on to the left target no problem, but the third target took me a bit to get. Well Nomadd got all his before mine so I figured I was out. But he hit the hostage so he was out of the competition.
So I was on to the second round. Well that didn't last long because my next time up I get up on the line. Went to take my first shot and got a type three malfunction. I clear the malfunction take aim again same thing happens. Repeat clear and try once again. Take three. The course instructors are watching my shooting and see I am using the proper technique so they knew it wasn't me. So at that point they had me unload and holster. After lunch they took a look at my gun and did something to it and oiled the slide. After that she worked like a charm with very few type 2 or 3 malfunctions. Although three of the range masters have suggested I have HK look at my gun since I have shot less than 1000 rounds total through it.
After lunch was the skills testing for the course. The first part was the shooting portion. First they had lined up the first relay (my group) on the 3 meter line. On the ready command we were to draw from the holster and shoot a control pair Then do a tactical reload. Safety on then reholster. When the line was done. We moved back to the 5 meter line and repeated. Did this all the way back to the 20 meter line. Then they had us go back to the 7 while they scored each target. Then it was time to do the dedicated Control pair then a dedicated head shot if the target turned. If the target didn't turn then you put on the safety and holstered the gun. This was reapeated from the 7 meter line to the 20 meter line. Then we went to the 5 meter line and waited for them to score each target again. At this point I had lost 18 points which isn't bad for someone that hasn't done a lot of shooting. Unfortunately the Nevada sun was a bit much and at that point I had an issue with heat stroke so I didn't get to do the other part of the test that had the malfunctions and reload demonstrations. But that is ok I still finished the class.

. I am not sure if Nomadd got a picture of me that day or not. If so that is probably going to be my avatar.
