DROS. Just Curious.

What do you guys call it? Do you spell it out(D-R-O-S)? Or do you pronounce it like a word(drauss)? I'm just curious as both ways sound a little awkward to me and I've never heard anyone with more gun knowledge/wisdom say it before.

I hate to break it to you, but a LOT of acronyms are pronounced as a word. Acronyms for computer related things such as SCSI(pronounced scuzzy), SATA(sat-tah), DOS(das), RAM(ram), etc etc etc.

And in regards to firearms, SPORTS comes to mind as an acronym pronounced as a word, just as an example for something other than DROS.

CARB would be the California Air Resource Board and it's pronounced "carb" like a carburetor(which is oddly ironic...)

BART, pronounced like the name Bart stands for Bay Area Rapid Transit

So we've got computer, firearms, government agencies, public transportation acronyms, that are all pronounced as a word. And that's just a small sample of them off the top of my head at 5 in the morning. So to claim that an acronym requires sounding out each letter is not only WRONG, but it's just silly.

Acronyms are words formed by initial letters (like NATO)...I guess unless they don't spell anything, then they must be just initials (ATF). I always say DROS like "boss."

DROS as in 'gross' - never heard it another way. If I heard it pronounced like 'boss' I'd think you were from Texas or something.
