    Gun Shop Refusing DROS Copy

A fellow Calgunner and I did a PPT at Ade's and they only gave me as a seller a small pink form filled with my info, shop info and gun info only. It's some sort of consignment/pawnbroker form. Forgot my copy of the DROS. After the initial meet, I called and tried to get a copy and was told no. Was told that I don't need one, not mandatory, and that the small form was all I needed and was good to go. I politely asked if there was any way of obtaining one and was told no once again. I have always received a copy of my DROS whether I am a buyer or seller and have always gotten a copy when doing transactions including at Ade's in the past. The buyer asked again when he picked up his gun and was also told no. So if you don't ask for it on the day of the PPT, there is absolutely no way of ever getting one? How hard is it to get it from the file and photocopy it. Ade himself has always done so for me. Has anyone else done a PPT there lately and experienced this? I wonder if this is some new policy they have since new ownership. I've been told that it is not mandatory, but it just doesn't seem right that they will refuse when a customer asks. I was even willing to drive out 45 mins to pick it up if it's too much hastle to fax it to me. I always keep a copy of the DROS on all my firearms for my records. This is my first bad experience with Ade's since I've been a repeat loyal customer of theirs for the last 5 years.

12076(b)(5) If the transaction is a private party transfer conducted pursuant to Section 12082, a photocopy of the original shall be provided to the seller or purchaser by the dealer, upon request. The dealer shall redact all of the purchaser's personal information, as required pursuant to paragraph (1) of subdivision (b) and paragraph (1) of subdivision (c) of Section 12077, from the seller's copy, and the seller's personal information from the purchaser's copy.

Do you want an AOW or C&R SBS/SBR in CA?

you have the right to get copies of the DROS. Who was it that would not give you a copy?

Didn't get his name but it wasn't Andrew or Ade. It's the same guy that's probably on their voice mail recording since it sounded like him. Sucks that they would make a big deal about it. I don't live close to them but drive out there anyway because of the service. Oh well...

I usually try and convince people they don't need one too, but if they insist, I print it. I just hate doing things that are pointless. Unless it is a handgun, there is no point in having a DROS form. None. All a long gun DROS proves is you did a back ground check, which does not even prove you picked the gun up. You could have been denied or let your 30 days expire. Your store receipt or a complete copy of the 4473 is much more meaningful.

I've heard that there is one very bad employee there and that he ruins their otherwise good reputation.

But, since he's the only I've dealt with, I wouldn't know if this is true. I'd call back and see if you get someone else. The person there that I've dealt with is extremely rude, maybe someone else there can help you.

True, but most folks are ingrained to keep records of everything. Military and law enforcement influence.

It is required by law that ANY legal document copy/duplicate be furnished upon request. If it has your information/signature, you are entitled to a copy.

Living in Cali, it's better to have it and not need it than need it and not have it. Gun owners are never really given the benefit of the doubt around here.

Except you will never need it, ever! Again, the DROS proves nothing, unless you have a handgun, but guess what, the DOJ will always have a copy for you. In fact, I had a handgun missing the other day and was wondering if I DROSed it. Called up the DOJ and gave them the serial number and they confirmed it had not been DROSed. I found it hidden in the back of the safe.

                        DROS form = worthless.
