My m14s polytech USGI conversion complete

Here are some pics, some are of the parts right after the park bath, a couple show the light grey finish before. The rest show the completed rifle.

m-14forum wouldnt touch my rifle because of the stamping that the previous owner did on the heel. He cited stress fractures, so I took things into my own hands.

I modified the receiver to accept the USGI bolt and installed a new barrel as well.
I added:
Unitized USGI gas cylinder (AMU)
Smith 22" CH barrel
USGI bolt
USGI trigger group
USGI stock
NM sights
TIN NM piston

[whatever]

What did the previous owner do to the heel? How hard was it to do the work your self and what involves making the GI bolt fit?
