    Odd online ammo pricing

So I went online to Sportsmansguide.com and ordered some ammo. Part of it was .45 ACP Wolf ammo. I was going to click on 1k rounds when I noticed that it had a 10 dollar heavy shipping charge. So I took a look at the 500 and 250 round options and realized that the 250 round box cost about 20% of the 1000 round case.

It also cost 40% of the 500 round box.

So I ordered 4 boxes of 250 rounds, and saved a total of 40 dollars between the cheaper rate per round and shipping penalties over the 1k case.

Can anyone guess why they would do that?

I checked my UPS tracking numbers, it looks like they just put it in one big 50 pound box anyway.

Websites frequently will have things that trip the "oversized shipping" flag (in their cart admin) on their own, but then not actually weigh the combined order. Weird, but common.
