    Holster at Range

I think I've seen this question asked in here before...but I can't find it with the search feature...

Anyone know of a range in SoCal which allows drawing from a holster?

I know Insight doesn't. They don't want anyone blowing a .45 caliber hole in their own ***.

Nope, all ranges here in S. CA that have alot of people on them whether inside or out, because of liability and insurance issues, will not let people draw from a holster, even if you are LE.

But when these ranges do have private instruction classes or handgun defensive classes, they allow for holster work, only because they either shut down the entire range or because they take out huge insurance policies to allow for drawing from the holster and such. So you should definitely check. I know Burro, Angeles Range, and LAX have classes like this at their ranges.

The only one time I've ever ever seen anyone able to draw and fire on a public range was at Angeles Range when a buddy of mine at FBI bank robbery division came with a huge group of FBI swat guys and even some HRT guys and the range gave them the whole entire right half of the pistol rifle range so that they could practice holster work, tri-bursts from their MP5s, and fully auto on the HRT M4s. Pretty cool stuff, but yeah, you probably have to roll like that in order for a range to change up their rules.

Just attend your local IDPA, IPSC matches.... most, if not all, stages start from holster.

PS. many of the private, club ranges, allow holster work.

Drawing a loaded gun from a holster is usually only done at matches or on private ranges.
All the more reason to start shooting matches.
Get some dummy rounds and practice your draws, slide and magazine manipulation skills at home, in front of a full length mirror or better yet a video camera so you can look at what you are doing later.

Prado has (or did have) a defensive pistol class. It's like, every other saturday, or something. Fairly inexpensive, and you get do some holster work, shoot from cover, etc. Give them a call, and check it out.

I'm a member at ASC. When I asked about drawing from a holster, they said it was okay.

You can't remove the "bench" barrier, but you can draw from your holster.

I wonder if they want that kept secret. Oh well...

On Target lets you if you get their "card." I think it involves either a match or class something or other...

I figured this would be the only way...

I used to use a holster at Desert Marksmen. But I don't have a membership and my Civic probably wouldn't get me up the dirt road.

I do practice at home though, in front of the mirror using snap caps.

I have never been to a range where they allow that. Best be is to find some BLM land or what not

It's important to practice holster draws. I've seen a lot of people with the SERPA holsters using their finger improperly, which will cause a ND. Find a local match that is friendly to new people and have a good time.

A cheap and very user friendly experience awaits anyone who wants to drive out to Corona. I do it once a month and have a blast.
