Jpoint? Firepoint? Docter? or Tasco Optima 2000?

Please correct me if I'm wrong about the history of these sights.

Tasco first made the Optima 2000 and then not too long ago they went out of business. Bushnell took over their operations. Then Firepoint took over the production of this sight, and then stopped producing it. Then JP Enterprises (www.jprifles.com) is now producing them and so is Docter. The Docter has a metal body whereas the others are plastic.

Which one do you guys recommend? Also, what is the difference between mounting one on the dovetail of the slide versus "melting" one on? Is there a danger of it the sight popping off when mounted on the dovetail? I'm thinking of putting one on a Glock for GSSF Unlimited and other action shooting disicplines.

It won't come off, it mounts very securely with the provided hardware. I have one and it has gone from my Glock 34 to my Para Ord Limited, to my Winchester Super X2 MKI practical. Great little sight.

I have the Doctor. They stopped importing them for a while but they may be available again. I had it on a 1911 and while the sight held up, one of the mounting screws that holds the baseplate to the dovetail sheared off flush with the dovetail piece. I now have the Doctor on a .22.

Very good sight once you finally get it zero'd.

I have a JPoint on my Sig 226 for Bullseye matches. It is very good. The unit is small, light, and the battery on mine has lasted a good long time, too. When one of the tiny screws fastening it on the mount loosened and disappeared, John Paul was good enough to send another batch, gratis. They are doing a lot with evil black rifles for 3 gun and other competition and seem to be great people to deal with. I just bought another JPoint for my Winchester 94AE.

One of the Bullseye shooters had a Docter on his .22 Trailside and was quite happy with it.

I had all 3 at one time. I must say the Doctor was hands down my favorite. It also was the most expensive. You couldn't go wrong any of the three.

Don't know much about the history right off the top of my head, but I can offer you an opinion or two.

The DrOptic is held in pretty high standing among a lot of military and prior military guys who have used it. One of the retired SF types I was working with had one mounted on his M4 as a back-up to his glass optics and swore by it. It's a bit small compared to the EoTech that I'm accustomed to, but it works pretty darn well when I gave it a try on the range.

Trijicon has an ACOG variant with a Dr mounted on top of it, if that tells you anything. Supposed to be a good balance, with a magnified optic and a non-magnified cqb optic right on the same platform.
