Nothing wrong with option 3 and returning the lock. It sure is a lot of effort for an inexpensive lock. Option 1 works the best. Most places I do business with just ask for the make and model. No proof of purchase necessary.sigpic
Then, Sir, we will give them the bayonet! (Stonewall Jackson's reply to Colonel B.E. Bee when he reported that the enemy were beating them back. At the first battle of Bull Run, July 1861)

Only if you tell them you're returning it! Don't buy and return the lock where you buy your gun.

I thought it was that you either had to have a safe, a Ca approved gun lock with a receipt showing a purchase within 30 days, or buy a gun lock there.
Assuming you went with option 3, why can you not, purchase the lock, then come back the next day and return it. Is there something in the law that specifically addresses this?
I believe with the new Fed handgun lock requirements (Child Safety Lock Act), all buyers must have a physical lock for the handgun when purchased. Either the one that some manufactures are including or your own. Having a safe at home will not work anymore.Comment

Here is the flyer on the Act.

We did this Child Safety thing in December - see my post at http://www.calguns.net/calgunforum/s...5&postcount=44
A safe qualifies for the Feds, too, but BATF didn't bother to mention that in their letter, nor are the rules finalized, so convincing a dealer may be something of an adventure.ARCHIVED Calguns Foundation Wiki here: http://web.archive.org/web/201908310...itle=Main_Page
Frozen in 2015, it is falling out of date and I can no longer edit the content. But much of it is still good!Comment
