    .22LR AR at Big 5

    Perhaps a dupe.

Anyway, I happen to be at Big 5 today and noticed an M4 in .22LR. It was a Colt for $599 that was dedicated .22LR. Pistol Grip and all.

I never thought I would see anything close to it to at a Big 5 store again.

It just has Colt branding on it. It isnt a real Colt. Built by Umirex who builds airsoft and air guns.

Incorrect info. They are actually built for Colt by Walther and distributed by Umarex. And yes...they are real Colts.

Irregardless of who makes it, I was surprised to see one on the shelf. The kid at the counter said he was surprised as well when it came in.

After all, Big 5 is the store that generally pushes DROS to 11 days for their protection.

Anyway, just thought I would share.

Sorry, how is it a real Colt if it isnt produced by them? It isnt even on Colts webpage, it is on Umarex's page. It is not a real Colt. All Colt did was lease their logo to Umarex for a return of royalties on the sales. That would be like saying that the GSG Kalashnikov AK is a real Kalashnikov AK because his name is on it.

Is the lower a real milspec lower on this umarex-colt? I saw one at the range the other day and it had the NFA "funhole" above the selector.

Not milspec. Lower and upper are substantially different then standard ARs.

That fun hole is part of lower, engraving/stamping. Can't even take it out.
It's not a true Colt in a sense that almost nothing is interchangeable with AR-15 design. But it is designed and licensed by Colt. So it is technically Colt.
'Cuz big holes are easier to see.

Do the big5's have different prices store to store?
I saw one the other day and I think they had it listed for 699.00 reg carbine model.

I wouldn't buy a rifle from my local one anyways. People behind the counter might as well be in the back of te store manning the shoe stations. Oh wait they do.

It's not built by Colt. It's not a Colt rifle. It's not even an AR15 pattern rifle.

It's a dedicated .22lr rifle that happens to look kinda like an AR15, with a licensed "COLT" logo on the side.

How did Walther get into the mix?

Colt originally sent the design to S&W for prototype developement. When S&W couldn't get it the way Colt wanted it they ended up having Walther give it a go. Walther got it the way Colt wanted it and ened up with the manufacturing contract. It is distributed by Umarex. Regardless what some may think about what they really are, they have the Colt logo roll marked into the lower and when I DROS them they are DROS'd as Colts.
