Optic ideas

I've put together an AR system with an Acog sight, but want something for closer engagement. Ive seen some optics put to the side of the weapon so all you have to do is a small tilt, but not sure what or where to find. Any ideas or links would be great!

EOTech is awesome

If you are using the .223/5.56, the EOTech 557 is a good choice. It is specifically built for that caliber and uses the drop down reticule for hold over for up to 600M

What kind of ACOG do you have? You can convert some to be like the TA31DOC which runs the Doc optics red dot right on top. Check with Trijicon, they might have a kit you can install one on yours.

The optics most people use for this are mini red dots (MRDs) - Burris Fastfire, Docter, Pride-Fowler, Jpoint/Firepoint/Optima, RDP-II, and a variety of Chinese look-alikes.

A few people use the Aimpoint T1 Micro, which is bigger and heavier than the MRDs, but is also more solid than many of them.

There's a variety of ways to mount them, but most people either put them on a railed scope ring, or on a railed ring that fits on the scope body and lets you mount it off to the side.

The YHM one is nice but I believe Miculek is using one of these. I might be wrong on that but IIRC that's how I found this product. I just don't get using a red dot sight when you have a limited power ACOG anyway. Maybe if it was a 6X. I thought the genius of the idea was pairing it with an adjustable power scope like a nice 3x9x40 or something. Sure am hoping to do that with my 308 build but then again look at some of the nicer red dots--$400-$600!!! Maintaining build ruggedness and quality while adding a side dot means a few more weeks of Ramen......be worth it too. In my case I'm hoping to use an Accupoint 3x9x40 on a LaRue mount and I want a red dot on a burkett side-mount but then again I want a battery-less build so we shall see where that goes........
