      That's only 76 rounds a minute....if you take the 40 million rounds a year/(365 days*24 hours*60 minutes)

I am sure they will ramp up production, they surely don't want to miss out on the civilian market. Love my .40 cal have plenty for now, but just in case I think more is in order.

Yeah they'd have to ramp up production. With an order like that there's no way they're getting full wholesale out of the gov't, so there's more profit in selling to civies on a bullet-by-bullet basis. It wouldn't make sense to slow civi sales to make gov't orders if the gov't orders made less per unit. This order is just icing on the cake for Winchester.

Law enforcement has more ammo at home than anyone else, and they didn't pay for it. I guess that is one of the many perk's they get. One local PD will order only hollow-point for range practice and street issue, why, because it is too much trouble to order two different types of ammo, saving the PD thousands a year. I asked a cop once why he chose his profession, he said, to drive fast and shoot guns, I said, no, really? He said, no, Really.

I have a good friend going into LE as we speak for the same reason. He told me "I'm going to be a cop" and I was shocked. He HATES cops. But there he was enrolling in an AJ course and signing up for the academy. He is a correctional officer currently.

I asked why he wanted to be a cop and he said "I can speed, heck, even chase people on the highway and it's legal. I can lobby to get approved for an AW. I can get tracers. I can get guns that are off-roster. I get to punk on the scum of society and there isn't a damn thing they can do about it. If you can't beat 'em, join 'em!"

I'm not sure that's a shining example of why someone should be a cop, but he's a good guy so I'd rather have him on the force than many others... he'll be a good cop. Probably.

I did the numbers - that's about 800 rounds a year for every agent they have.

800 rounds only? don't some of you guys go through that in 1 range day? haha heck the magpul courses use that much along with 1500 rounds of rifle ammo in two days.

You're giving these DHS agents way too much credit assuming they'd actually use up all 800 rounds a year.

I just received my shipment of 7.62x25 from ammoman.com. I bought 2, 1224 round tins for 139.00 each, free shipping. 10 days later I see they raised the price 10 bucks. It was 50 pounds from NJ to CA. 10 days to get here.

Same reason a lot of people join the armed forces: it's a power trip. I'm convinced there's only small percentage of people who join the police force to "protect and serve."

One thing's for sure, I haven't been served yet.

I guess the DHS/ICE/Border Patrol are getting tired of their prolific use of tasers. Nothing like upgrading your skills and hardware!

All I can say is my Wal*Mart has been getting more ammo in lately, and we haven't had much in a few months. They got 40 boxes of Federal 100rnd value packs in last week alone, amongst a lot of other ammo
