    Workbench Cleaning Station?

Any recommedations on a bench vise or cleaning station for holding long guns? I'm looking for something that will last and is adjustable that's not a plastic POS?

    Thanks -g

Might want to rethink your comment...My plastic POS has been doing its job for over 30 years and still going strong. And yes, it gets lots of use. I purchased the original MTM model RMC-1. Here is a link showing a picture of what it looks like. Shop around and I know you can get a better price.

Got the same "Plastic POS" and it's been working for over twenty years. I've seen some wooden ones, but as long as my MTM works I don't see any reason to replace it. I can spend that money on guns.

If you dislike plastic, and aren't a woodworker yourself, no problem.

Just do an internet search for the various hobbyist woodworkers' boards on the internet, and locate a few hobbyist woodworkers in your area by putting in a suitable query posting.

Its reasonably certain that you can make some arrangement (offer some $, or help with something they need) with a local hobbyist woodworker to make a nice hardwood gun-vice, or gun cleaning rack, or maybe several, to fit specific guns. Use strips of good leather from old trouser belts to pad the points which actually touch the weapons.

A wooden gun cleaning rack can be clamped down to a nicely finished kitchen or other table without marring the table surface, by getting the little 'stick-on' dots of felt available in hardware stores, sticking a pattern of those to the underside of the gun rack, and clamping with a 'Jorgensen' type of woodworkers' clamp, which has wooden jaws.

        cheers

Sorry, I didn't mean to ruffle and feathers. I've seen a few cheap, flimsy plastic ones that are not worth the price of the box they came in. Thanks for the recommenation and model. I'll look into it. -g

I have one of the MTM. Don't remember how much it costs, but it is decent. I do a lot more handgunning than Rifle, tho. But still....
Actually I only started collecting Milsurps 3 years ago. I think I might own about 24...They're cheaper than guns that will most likely never get the opportunity to kill somebody...

I've had a Tipton for a while now
I got it 4 years ago for Chistmas / Don't know how I got along without it
I have a whole gun cleaning station built around it

I've got the "base model" Tipton as well. Had it about three years. It does everything I need it to do and has been well worth the prince.... and I bought it on sale.
