Guess Which FFL Saved Us Again!?!

Today another Calgunner (eight86six) met me at Turner's in Orange County (the one on Tustin Blvd.).

And right on time he was there ready to do the private party transfer. There were two elements that made this transfer a bit more difficult. The first, that the buyer was no where near his home as he was traveling all the way down from Fresno and second, that he had recently purchased a new SUV and did not have the regular registration papers yet.

We gave the paperwork to the red shirt at Turner's and of course he went straight to standard, "anything out of the ordinary has to be approved by someone other than me" line. He gathered up all our ID's, a payroll stub from AT&T (the buyers employer) and car registration and went off looking for the manager in the back. After about 15 minutes he came out saying the manager was "stuck on it being the actual registration or other proof or CA residency." We asked if it would be ok if he brought it back with him in 10 days when he was to pick up the gun. Afterall, if he didn't check out or if for some reason he could not prove to be a CA citizen, they had the gun and their money. Again they said "No way, can't be done!"

I knew exactly what we had to do.

What we should have done in the first place.

We drove together the short 10 minutes extra and strolled in to Ammo Brothers in Cerritos. You may remember that Ammo Brother's superstar, Francisco had recently found a way to make things work and for all parties to fulfill their legal requirements with a "can-do" attitude during another PPT I was involved in (Link To: A Super Ammo Bros Experience Thread )!

We took a number and one of the guys behind the counter said hello and asked what we needed while he was helping another customer, we said we were there to do a PPT. He said "No problem, let me give you these forms to start filling out while you wait". WOW!

We filled out all the paperwork and met up with fellow Calgunner's Leesan82 and DenverDuck (who I bump into so often that I can't understand why I never notice him following me). After some introductions and a quick chat we barely had time to look around the store before our number was called and when learning of the car registration issue, Francisco said calmly, "no problem, just be sure to bring it in with you when you come back down south to pick up your gun or we can't release it."

That's it, that was all there was to it. Ammo Brothers with their friendly can do attitude comes through again. And while the red shirts at Turner's were friendly and very polite, they were not empowered to find a way to help their customers in unique circumstances. It was clear from the payroll stub (current) the vehicle paperwork and his DL that the buyer was not trying to be shady and I know for a fact that other Turner's have gone so far as to allow me to bring my car registration in when I had not driven to the store in my truck. It was not a company policy, it was that store manager.

Again, Ammo Bother's came through for us. Sure there were plenty of customer's waiting their turn and we had to wait just a bit, but no one was complaining. When it is your turn you receive the attention and your purchase/transfer/questions are handled quickly and professionally. The fact that the PPT papers were given to us to start on, we had a quick meeting with other Calgunners and got to shop at least a couple of aisles until our number was called made the wait seamless. When this kind of service continues to happen even when they get thrown a curveball, it is apparent that the employees genuinely care about customer service and that it is no accident.

Thanks again to Francisco and the entire Ammo Brother's crew.

    Job well done guys!

Not really. We were able to take the car pool lane since we rode together but it was not bad, Katella at 55N (just a couple of exits) to 91W (by the time we made it over to the carpool lanes it was time to merge back) then to 605N, first exit. Very simple.

          Deal,
Don't you love the FFLs that hook you up? I know Bullseye in San Rafael does the same thing. One of the PPT I did, the guy didn't have a car reg and we still did the DROS and let him know to bring it back in between then and when he picked up the gun.

That's the kind of Customer Service that keeps you in Business!
Actually I only started collecting Milsurps 3 years ago. I think I might own about 24...They're cheaper than guns that will most likely never get the opportunity to kill somebody...

Nice to see them turning themselves around after hearing so much about their bad customer service.

Although, I have to mention, there were two other FFLs just a couple minutes South of you on Tustin, and another roughly equidistant in Brea >.> Driving all the way over to Cerritos seems a bit extreme. >.>

We thought of them actually but we knew AB would handle the issue and Cerritos was more on his way anyway and they will be open on the day he will return. I didn't go into any of that because it has nothing to do with the point of this OP.

I was sending another atta' boy to AB and a message to Turner's to get with the program.

I have to agree with your opinion of AB Deal; I have had nothing but good experiences with them.

When I first began going to the gun show at Costa Mesa, I checked them and Milwal. At the time AB wasn't charging for using a CC nor tax. Milwal was and wouldn't deal. Since that day 7yrs. ago, I have always bought my ammo from them. I also bought a OLL last year due to their excellent service.

This year at the Ontario show, they were nice enough to allow us (Calguns) to use some of their space to have our booth!

                      Kudos to them!

A+ for ammo bros. Deals is just too popular on Calguns. Many Calgunners tails him all the time.

Forgive the ignorance of this question but why do they need a vehicle reg to prove residence? Is a California drivers license insufficent for some reason?
