    AOW owners ?

Simple question, any body here have/know somebody who has been successfull with getting a AOW with a NFA Trust ? I see alot of threads on this subject, but what i have not seen is " I got my stamp back!! " LOL. Since this is a somewhat new thing and i know they are taking a while to approve these stamps, but anybody at least in the "process" and/or have your check's cashed by the gubment ?

I know of at least one CG'er who has an approved Form 1'ed VFG'ed AK pistol and another CG'er who has an "in progress" Form 1 to make a VFG'ed AR pistol. I'm also aware of one or more WP870s that were in the progress of being made by an NFA manufacturer for customers, but don't know status on them.

Do you want an AOW or C&R SBS/SBR in CA?

thats the problem, finding an NFA dealer willing to Form 4 AOWs. My local NFA dealer won't deal with the public on NFA items, doesn't want to upset the Sheriff by selling "those kinds of guns". And other CG'ers have talked to their local NFA dealer and got the same answer or were just told that the AOW option did not exist for CA-residents.

I know of two in process with checks clearing the bank from the Feds a little less then a month ago. They are both PG only mossberg 500's, not C&R conversions.

So a Form 1 is pretty much the only way to go?

By building an AOW on a Form 1, can the average person build one, or does an SOT need to build it?

you can chop it your self. I belive SOT only if you send it off to be cut up and build.

I have been advised by a calguns resident expert (ke6guj) to wait 60 days from the time the check clears before checking status so as not to further delay the process. Ill let you know!

yup. Since nobody has apparantly found any NFA dealers willing to Form 4 any pre-made AOWs. We had an NFA manufacturer willing to do some AOWs on customer-supplied host-guns, but health problems have sidelined him. There may be other manufacturers nationwide able to help us, but it will take some legwork of those wanting an AOW to find them.

you can build it if you have the ability. And if you don't have the ability to finish it, you can send it to a NFA gunsmith willing to work on it for you.

Correct, current time frames per the various NFA timeline threads I have seen have been in the 2-4 month range. Apparantly, for the last year the number of Form 1 and Form 4s has gone up substantially nationwide, which has slowed down the process. Actually, calling for a status check doesn't really delay the process because you are talking to a receptionist who can tell you the status without having to burden the examiner, but as long as your check clears, you know the paperwork made it to the NFA branch, there isn't any need to call before you get about 8-10 weeks in.
