    Buried WW2 Bayonet

This may be a dupe, the Google custom search showed no hits.

Guy found a WW2 garand bayonet buried 65 years in a foxhole in Belgium.

I have that exact same bayonet in near perfect condition(light use). I also have a WWII Bolo from the Manila marines. From what I understand is if they failed the rifle exam they were issued the Bolo instead. Now I just need an M1 Garand for my bayonet.

I have the Garand, just don't have that model bayonet. I have the M5A1.

Wow, that is really cool! If I lived in Europe I would be out at the battle fields with a metal detector looks for relics just like that. I saw a cool program on excavations of the trenches from World War 1, so much loot down there it's insane

I was EOD in the UK and we found lots of cool stuff from WW1 and 2. I have a scabbard and bayonet from an enfield ( spike type) but all the stuff I found wasnt in nearly as good condition.
In Germany on our camp (old WW2 panzer camp) they were doing construction and pulled up masses of old helmets and gasmask canisters. Some were in alrite condition but the German contractors destroyed them for some reason...

i still have the bayonet ( in the UK) and some cannonballs we found and checked out. I will have to check and see if I have any pics - This was before Digital cams ( or ones I could afford anyway). I know I have a few pics of some mustard gas stokes and levens mortar shells somewhere...

Nothing from Germany - A few guys grabbed helmets and then the Germans went to town and crushed them.

I have the same bayonet. They were shortened

from the longer ones that came with the O3 Springfields. But mine does not have a story. It would be fantastic to find the original owner. My FiL was fighting near there but he carried an M1 carbine.

My wife's grandfather passed away a few years ago and while cleaning out his garage we found two bayonets, very simiar to what's pictured, one was short, about 14 inches and the other was long, about 32 inches. Both in great shape. I kept the 32 incher, it sits in a box with my grandfathers WWII uniform, patches, and medals. I still need to find a way to display it all.

I've heard from a few people that using metal detectors is illegal or at least highly regulated in many European countries. I don't know if it is to protect people from accidently digging up old explosives from the World Wars or to protect ancient artifacts from private treasure hunters. But apparently you can't just buy a metal detector and start hunting with it like you can over here.

The long one looks like it was made in the Philipines.
