Firearm Inventory Software

I'm currently looking for some way to better organize the inventory of my small but growing collection of firearms and was wondering what everyone else is using. Currently I use a spreadsheet system that I print out and keep for my C&R bound book while keeping a separate one for non C&R items. It's an alright system but is definitely lacking. I'm looking for a program / database that I can enter all sorts into, attach pictures of the firearms to go along with the entry and the capability of running a C&R report would be a huge bonus.

I've tried the NMCollector JE program which sounded promising but for some reason wouldn't save pictures I attached, wouldn't save my notes & requires a yearly subscription for the full version. I'm all for paying for something, but not on a yearly basis, and definitely not for something that doesn't work right.

So, that said, what are you all using out there and how impressed with it are you?

Filemaker Pro is a database solution. I haven't priced it lately and it's probably overkill for what you want, but you might want to check it out.

Definitely Filemaker. I've used it for about a decade for clients with serious data management demands and it has been a great solution. Granted it is far more robust than managing your firearms collection but it's not that expensive for a single-user copy. You can customize it to infinity, both its biggest asset and liability. Eventually you have to stop and just use it. If you need help, there are a lot of FM support sources. For serious development, I can connect you with an excellent FM developer, the guy I use for my hardcore work.

I use Filemaker Pro, too. I designed my own DB in about 10 minutes and it does the trick for me.

If you wanted free-as-in-beer, mySQL would do just as well but with a little more effort.

Just use excel and a binder. I keep records of all purchases and place receipts in a binder. I also keep a binder which records serials, parts, etc....

Hire a High School kid to setup a small PHP server on your computer and design a website that works exactly the way you want it.

Probably cost you $100 at most, you own it, and it does everything the way you want it to do it.

The only thing I'd worry about proprietary software is that long after they decide there is no money in it, you will still have your firearms. They discontinue updates, Microsoft or Apple update their operating system outdating the version you are stuck with, and blamo your hosed. Better to take the advice of something like Filemaker Pro, or Excel.

Shoot, you could create a word document with a simple table in it that would do the job for you. Just remember to back that sucker up.

LOL. Unfortunately there's not much left up there for me.

Thank you all for the suggestions, another person also directed me to the Burnsoft - My Gun Collection program. It's free for 30 days, and I'm going to give it a whirl. Seems to be pretty cool, it allows you to enter in as many items as you want, attach pictures, and will allow you to track your maintenance and ammunition as well.
