Just be careful... call another substation and ask the same question, you might get a surprising different answer.

On YOUR land, yes you can open carry. Step 1 foot off your land and its not legal. Our county has over 200K residents (the CITY of berdoo has over 200K residents) so open carry is a no-go.

BUT if you have bird shot in your revolver, you might get away with that one as its not a solid projectile.

I would go for the CCW... Lemme know when you fill it out and apply, cuz I want to also. Ive had a handgun for 5 years now so maybe they'll grant me a CCW as I aint shot anyone yet hahaha

Im telling you right now, if you have it loaded on you outside of your property, you ARE breaking the law.

Whether or not the cop wants to be a dick about it is another story.

However, you CAN open carry UNLOADED and that is legal. So use your J frame and a speedloader in your pocket and you're good to go.

Or like I said, go with birdshot... Its a mini-shotgun at that point.

For me, I say get a hunting license and just carry a shotgun with you. If you get stopped, yer hunting jack rabbits or quail, and you can have the gun loaded with ammo in the tube (NOT chamber) while transporting it as well.

Hunting license is a good thing, I need to get one.

I'd advise some serious training before you shoot a gun on horseback

True wealth is time. Time to enjoy life.

Life's journey is not to arrive safely in a well preserved body, but rather to slide in sideways, totally worn out, shouting "holy schit...what a ride"!!

No plans on shooting while on horse back, I think I`ll be able to ride away if need be.

The police enforce the laws, but they are not lawyers. You should call a lawyer for technical info like that.

                  Just go for the CCW.

The hardest part is filling out the paperwork. SB Sheriffs Office is basically shall issue. So unless you have something on your record that would disqualify you they will issue.

I didn't know there was a state law that prevented open carry.

                      Even if you're only 26-27??

                      I wanna apply for mine.

I'm a small business owner (I draw house plans) and I routinely have to go to the far streches of the county to do work and give bids, etc. The distance away from civilization means that deputy response time may be limited and I need a CCW to ensure my safety in such desolate areas. I also carry large sums of $$ to the bank after being paid for jobs.

How could I word that into a good-cause statement? I know they are super touchy about saying "I need a CCW cuz y'all can't protect me"...

J as long as you are over 21 you can apply.

As for your good cause statement what you wrote is about all you need.

I have some copies of the app in pdf format if you would like to look at it. Send me PM and I can email it to you.

I have not applied yet but one of my shooting buddies has had his for about three years. He has been helping me with the process.

My main stumbling block has been the 3 letters of character reference from people who have know you for at least a year. I do not know many people that are close enough to me or who are not anti gun who would write letters.

                          I'll write a letter

I wanted to show up with 5 letters, and have them all be from people who also have CCWs. I do personally know 3 people with CCWs that know me well enough to write a letter.

Do you think that would help, if all your "character witnesses" were also CCW holders...to me it would show your "crowd" is a good one... I dunno maybe I'm wrong.

Whats the law regarding driving into another County? If your issued one and need to go to drive to another county, is it illegal to carry it there as they have not also issued you a CCW?

Can't hurt one of my letters is a CCW holder.

You only need three letters and then 4 people that they can contact. They will send out a questionnaire to your contacts. I think I may have a copy of the questionnaire somewhere.
