So 762Cavalier was posting last week about the Friends of The NRA dinner, and being as how im a life member of the NRA, but havent been to one of these events, I figured its about time to get involved. So I invited a some friends, and the in-laws so we had a party of 6, pre-bought our tickets from 762Cavalier, and when Friday hit, made our way to Elk Grove to the dinner.
So we show up at 6-ish and notice that its a nicely put together event, walls lined with nice door prizes, an excellent selection of firearms placed thru-out as various prizes and auction items. We select our seat, find the bar, grab a drink, and begin to peruse the event. Being as how this was my first event, I was unsure of how the process worked, but a NRA rep was more than welcome to show us around and clue us into how it all worked.
So we bought some mugs that had various amount of tickets hidden inside, all mugs contained a minimum of $20.00 worth of tickets all the way up to $200.00 worth of tickets. Each of the mugs sold for $20.00. I spent about $80.00 and won approximately $500.00 worth of tickets, so all in all, I had quite a handful of tickets to place on drawings. All in all, I didnt win any huge prizes there, but I did win a football and basketball that was donated. Great for the boys!
Then on the main gun selection table, they held a raffle there, they sold a max of 50 tickets at $20 a pop for each drawing. There had to have been 35 or so brand new guns there of every type to satisfy every type of shooter. So the first thing I do is purchase a couple fo $20.00 tickets and wait for them to call the next number, Lo and behold, its my number! So right off the bat, I won pick of any firearm of the table! I chose the Gsg-5, mainly because I just got one of Ojisan's for one my my pre-teen boys, and needed another cool-guy .22 for the other son. So now one boy has a Ojisan Thompson 10/22 and the other has a Gsg-5! Excited at my first win, I buy a couple more tickets thru the night. I came 1 number away from winning a Springfield M1a! Then the auction comes around, I end up picking up a brand new Smith & Wesson Scandium Alloy framed .38 +P snubby for $475.00! After the final item was auctioned, they decide to do one more table drawing, and the number ends up being one of mine once again! I send the wife up this time, and she picks up a Beretta M-9 Limited Edition Armed Forces Series Pistol. Its a navy version, but what the heck huh!
Anyways, met a few calgunners there, had some great conversation, great food, won a few guns and had a overall excellent time! I would highly suggest checking one out the next time you hear of them! Thanks to 762Cavalier for showing us a great time!
