    Almost bought another rifle today...

But ran into FUD & incompetance at Big5...

Was going for a semui auto 22LR Savage for my kid. $159 & change etc.

Do all the paperwork & off goes the minion to do the DROS. Then he comes back & tells me I need the 3 utility bills to show residence etc before he can proceed. (had a shredding frenzy just this past week)

I point out that the last time I bought a gun there it wasn't needed immediately, but any time before I picked up the gun was fine. Told him it didn't work that way last time.

He called his boss who was even more clueless.

I tell him to forget it & he then pisses & moans that he's out $25 for the DROS.

    Well tough titty amigo.

I go home & run off 3 recent phone bills from the computer & go back to the store. He tells me he can't use computer generated bills. I inform him that 3 comp generated bills were just fine when I bought a Mossberg 590 from him.... & that they completely forgot about the bills when I'd bought a Mosin there.

No dealing with the moron so stuff it. Just as i'm about to leave another customer (who'd overheard the exchanges) tells me that he'l buy my kids leftie bolt action Savage for his kid from me.

As I actually walk out the door the salesman asks if I want to have the semi auto put on hold for me. Reply: "not a hope in hell"

Great, I go there to buy a gun & end up selling one instead...

Why the **** do you need 3 bills? Your D/L should be plenty unless its not your current address or your not a citizen.

Last time I checked proof of residence was only required for handguns anyways.

You have to show proof of residence for any gun purchase in this state. It wont be long before you will have to show the same for a knife or BB gun purchase. AS for Big 5, wont be long before you need some kind of proof of residence of the purchase of a bat..

I stand corrected: I just always have my car reg with me when purchase any gun.. just habit.

Big 5 firearm employes should be avoided for any sort of firearm knowledge or competence. I do not even want to get into the kind of FUD those people tell me.

That being said, if you are buying a longarm all that is required is your CDL/CID or Military ID. Unless your address is not current, or your ID is expired then you should not have to show any additional documents.

Although I would also avoid the DOJ for answers, for basic stuff like this you can have Big 5 give them a call. I always keep the number handy.

                    B.S.

Proof of residency is only required for handgun prchases, and NOT for long guns.

I just got a Remington 1300 - did the PPT at Ades last week. I was informed Permanent residents ( not citizens ) have to supply 3 months utility bills for firearms purchases.
