    Great Success!

Well, as a brief bit of background, my significant other was raised in a home in which guns were completely absent, and has a genuine discomfort of them (as they are an unknown), yet has been completely reluctant to let me take her out and teach her, even with a bb gun or a .22. She doesn't like that I have multiple guns, nor understand the reasoning behind them, doesn't want a gun safe in the house (she said to keep it in my garage/woodshop...RIGHT!), and would prefer that i sold my collection...

That was up until yesterday. Yesterday morning, she awoke me from a dead sleep to ask if you were allowed to shoot someone if they broke into your house. Once I got the sleep out of my eyes, I explained the threat of great bodily harm that is necessary, etc. and went back to bed. The next morning I asked her what the question was about, and she explained that one of the ladies she works with had her house broken into and burglarized the day before.

She stated that it made her think that if someone was to break in while I was at work, even with guns in the house, she would have no clue how to use them, nor defend herself. To make a long story short, she said that she is not ready to get a gun of her own, but she wants to come with me and learn how to shoot! So for guys who can't get their girls to support the hobby, be patient, or get someone to break into one of their coworkers houses

So how did you organize the break-in into her co-worker's house?

Now take her to the range!

Affirmative, the plan is to get her out there with the 10/22 asap to teach the basics and get her hitting cans on the cheap before she changes her mind (a popular occurance with females)!

YEAHHHH!!!! Good for you; and you have the right plan also in starting her off with a soft shooting, mild reporting 22LR. Many guys make the mistake of trying to pull their "macho" BS with newbie girlfriends/wives by handing them a shotgun, large cal pistol/rifle too soon or right at the beginning (trying to impress the "little woman" with what they shoot) and end up doing irreparable harm in scaring them off for good or reinforcing negative preconceived notions about guns and gun owners.

Nice. Now, can someone tell me how to deal with a girlfriend that wants to claim one of your guns as her own?

I married a gunner. She has her own and shoots better than I do.

I'm qualified to answer this question, as the wife did claim one of my AR's. The answer is to buy another one.
