    Bowling Pin distance

I got some bowling pins I want to use as targets. It will be mostly pistol and maybe some rifle shooting. What would the safe distance from the shooting line be to ensure against ricochets? I plan on hanging the pins from a two foot chain.

I'd go with 50YDS. I'd also skip the chains and use rope.

You can give a bonus prize to anyone who can do a called out hit on the rope... just like the movies.

We are not as young as when we first started shooting so hitting the pin will be a challenge and be lucky to see the rope.

          Thanks for the help

Not at all ranges: if you care to go to Lytle Creek I think you can shoot at 25yards with a rifle or maybe even closer..?

Put a screweye in the top & use fishing line.

We did a Speed shoot w/ bowling pins last year at a pistol match. Had them set like a bowling lane (all ten pins in a triangle). Had protection for the face of the table they were on. We shot them from about 18 yards. I knocked down all ten in 3 shots/sub 4 sec. It was cool.

The plastic on the pins is very tough. Amazing how much it contains the wood center, even from a .223 round. Pistol bullets mostly bounce off.
Actually I only started collecting Milsurps 3 years ago. I think I might own about 24...They're cheaper than guns that will most likely never get the opportunity to kill somebody...

I belong to the group that uses firearms, and knows which bathroom to use.

Tis better to have Trolled & lost, Than to never have Trolled, at all.

cmon now....put three up at 150 yards just to throw people off. Odd distance that no one really shoots at.

Another one that say's at least 50 yrds. But I do like Acorn556 suggestion of an odd distance..

Bowling pins are fun to shoot at! and are cheep!.. Turners sells them butt cheap.. It took 12 direct shoot from 7.62x54 before the pin was toast.. Always a good time to be had..

You'll have a great time.. Post pics (before and after)..

Go to a bowling ally. Ask for any old ones, most times they will give them to you for free.

The one near my house sells old ones for $1 each. Turners sells them for $3.50 each!

I shot bowling pin shooting matches where they set the pins at 7 to 10 yards on a table. If I shoot it now, I will shoot it at 300 yards or more with my rifles.
