We have 3 55 gallon drums in a shed and smaller containers in the house. The water keeps so much longer if it's covered out of the sun. I say, if you have the room then store as much as you practically can. We have a reverse osmotic water filter which is good for 2K gallons but I tried our stored water and it was fine. I change it out every year or so. I have an electric pump to transfer or drain the water when it's that time. I also have a generator and solar panel/battery/inverter to run the pump should the power go out. I also plan on using the genny for stuff in the house.
Our food runs low so I have to work on that. Inside storage space is the biggest problem. I'd like to keep a months worth but it's been hard lately.
Keep up the preparations! I sleep better at night that's for sure. It's better than burrying my head in the sand and it's not all that expensive.
