Assault rifle left behind in grocery robbery

(12-31) 11:37 PST SAN FRANCISCO -- Police are investigating a robbery this morning at a San Francisco Albertsons grocery store where an AK-47 assault rifle was left behind, according to a police dispatcher.

At around 7:12 a.m., police arrived at the Albertsons store at 1750 Fulton Street near Masonic Street in the Lone Mountain neighborhood of the city and found the weapon along with evidence that there had been a break-in.

A manager at the store, which opened at 7 a.m., would not comment on the circumstances of the robbery or when it happened.

The dispatcher said police don't know whether anything was taken from the store and have no suspects at this time.

Are all Albertson's stores open 24 hours? I wouldn't want to work in a 24-hour store located at Fulton and Masonic in SF. The neighborhood is near the Western Addition which is filled with gangs that run the projects and all the govt subsidized housing we pay for with our tax dollars.

It was probably an SKS. I didn't read the news article but for some reason anything that fires 7.62x39 is automatically an AK47 in the medias eyes.
Lord, make my hand fast and accurate.
Let my aim be true and my hand faster
than those who would seek to destroy me.
Grant me victory over my foes and those who wish to do harm to me and mine.
Let not my last thought be 'If I only had my gun."
And Lord, if today is truly the day you call me home, let me die in an empty pile of brass.

None of the Albertsons are 24hrs....The bookkeeper usually leaves at midnight as well as the swing shift dept heads. the night crew usually is scheduled at midnight to stock shelves and gets off at 8:30. The janitors are usually there at midnight as well and produce and meat depts usually start to show up at 4am as well as the bakery and deli depts and the morning bookkeeper with the opening checkers and baggers at 6am....kinda raises the hair on my head that the night crew might have set the whole thing up... it has happened before....in my 25 yrs with Luckys, there has been 4 whole nights crews fired for stealing(5 - 8 employees)

None of you get it, do you...

The evil assault weapon was acting on its own and broke into the store to steal some fine oil to get all lubed up before going on a killing spree!!

It's a darn good thing the banned AW was found and taken into custody before it could do any harm.

In SF gang hierarchy, it's easier to get a real AK than a handgun.

It was probably the pistol grip that made it do it.

It looks like SFGate has completely changed their story since the original post:

(12-31) 14:27 PST SAN FRANCISCO -- Police have one suspect in custody and are searching for three others involved in a takeover robbery at an Albertsons grocery store this morning in San Francisco's Lone Mountain neighborhood.

Four robbers entered the store at 1750 Fulton Street near Masonic Avenue about 7 a.m., just minutes after the store opened for business, police said. When officers arrived at 7:12 a.m., the robbery was ending, according to an officer at the Park Station.

One suspect was arrested at the scene carrying a toy handgun. Witnesses told police at least three other people were involved in the robbery, including a woman who appeared to be carrying an AK-47 assault rifle.

At least two customers were in the store at the time, but were shopping in the back and may not have known the robbery was taking place, police said. No injuries were reported.

Police believe the three robbers who got away took about $15,000 in cash.

A manager at the store would not comment on the robbery.

Sounds like an Airsoft rifle with the front end painted black.

Wonderful. I'm so glad they got their facts togther BEFORE reporting the story.

I mean, wow, what if someone thought it was a REAL AK used!? Oh, wait....

Highly doubtfull that they got that much $$$$$$$ all the previous days cash is in a timed vault that only the manager and the armored car driver can open (takes 2) unless there is the chance of an inside job... because only the checks and any food stamps and such don't get dropped in the timed safe.
