When at the range always but, I admit to not wearing glasses while in the field. If shooting a pistol/rifle during the day I will normally have some sunglasses on. But, when in the duck blind or other hunting, glasses aren't my SOP.

there was one scene of him pointing a loaded, cocked SAA at the camera with his finger on the trigger.

That show was just on and I had a little butt clencher moment when I saw the rounds on the chamber. I don't remember if the camera moved or he moved but it showed both sides of the barrel and I could see that at least 4 rounds were loaded.

Am i the only one here who has been hit and slightly cut by shrapnel at the range? Several times i've had shrapnel come out of nowhere and ding me on the leg or arm. If hit in the eye, it could have meant blindness. Wear those safety glasses people.

I've been cut by lead coming back, so have many others such as my mom. Just last time I went shooting there was a lot of lead coming back up. I had a spot on my shirt, and another person caught a good one.

One should also wear a groin guard when shooting at hard objects. I once shot a fire extinguisher with a .45 Auto at about 15 yards. The first round made a dent. The second made the dent deeper. The third bounced off and missed my jewels by 4". I had a bruise on my inner thigh for a month!

I've seen him with spent brass in his ears on the show. I've seen another old Jarhead do it, too -- I was at a state shooting match and Capt. Dale Dye was there as a spectator. He had brass in his ears as well.

My eyes are something I cannot replace.

I guard them like my twig and giggleberries

Always wear 'em. I think people who choose not to wear them are just waiting for disaster to strike.

hell, even with everything functioning correctly bad stuff can happen. If you're used to shooting outdoors, then you go to a small indoor range. Next thing you know your shells are rebounding off the barrier and hitting you in the face. Happens with my CZ at the indoor range

Gunny does a few things on the new show that grates against my common sense....the brass in the ears in a big one. The lack of eye protection is another.

But the biggest one, is the unrepentant shooting of glass jars and bottles. Impossible to fully clean up.
Shooting from the horse, the Cowboy blows away a glass jar from his horse, then Gunny does so from his Harley.

However, this was done on a dirt road that was certainly not a shooting range.

Looked dramatic in slo-mo, but all I see is glass shards lancing through my boots and slicing my feet to pieces as I walk along the quiet country lane. Not to mention the cut and pierced hooves of cattle or other horses.

The responsible shooter goes out of his way to not shoot targets or trash that will leave inorganic debris behind. But Gunny sends a different message; "Look how cool all that glass was when it 'sploded up!"

Hey, you're right. I thought about that when I saw the show but forgot about it afterwards (the eye protection, fingers on the trigger, loaded single action stuck in my head though). Very bad example to set on national TV, in my opinion.

As much as we like the ol' SGT, can't we get a *better* representative up there on TV? Maybe one of y'alls is good at acting. We've got to have at least a few good members here, right?
