    Big Bear

Is there anywhere to shoot in the woods near Barton Flats near Big Bear. I will be at a camp there in October and will get a hunting license if that would help.

There's a designated open shooting area up highway 38 off of forest road 2n93.

However, you have to call the local ranger station to check if fire restrictions apply and as far as I know, since there's been no real rain up in BB, you probably won't be able to shoot there right now.

But you can call and find out.

You could drive up into Big Bear and shoot at the pay to shoot range on the north side of the lake by Division Drive. I think it is still open. It should only take you about 30-40 minutes to drive to from your campground.

Rifle,Pistol & Trap Shooting Range, Big Bear Valley,

Those are the 2 closest options to Barton flats and open shooting in general is a no no in the Nat'l forest where you are camping.

Go take a look at the Big Bear Discovery Center. They always have a ranger in the visitor center there. This past June I went up there for a little cruse and to chat with one of the rangers. They are very helpful and know their stuff. Check it out! Or call them up!

Short answer NO! It is fire season and all recreational/plinking shooting in the NF is closed for now.
