Happened to a guy I know, with a Ruger 10/22. He made a hole in the roof of his barn. An "oh ****" moment. Teaches you to check the chamber religiously.

The 10/22 has two seperate extractors, tell your buddy.

That's one of the things that I teach in all of my classes. Check visually and also physically by putting your finger into the chamber to make sure that there are no cartridges left in the firearm. Just takes a second for the check.
