    Florida's Gun Situation

I'll make this as quick as I can because the hotel's internet is spotty.
I'm here in Jacksonville for a week-long business trip.

As I was making my rounds of the gun stores, I was told they had a gun show this past Saturday, what luck! Let me tell you, it's such a different environment than Kali. The prices are so much cheaper...of everything! It was a CGers dream with every kind of pistol, ammo, and magazines that you can think of! The ammo prices were a decent price with a box of 9mm averaging $16 and 45 ACP for about $24. There's definitely a difference of price between a year ago and now. For all you OLL people, it's friggin' HEAVEN for you guys! There were so many AK and AR type rifles, with detachable mags! I could only stare and drool at them

Unfortunately the ammo situation at the Wally Worlds are the same as back home. I went to the 4 Wallys yesterday and only found 1 that had 3 boxes of 45 ACP. I did not see any of the other handgun rounds except for .25 and some .38 special. Only two of them had .22LR, which I bought because it was only $16 for a brick. It's $26 for a WWB of 9mm and $32 for 45s.

The guns stores ranged from the crappy to the pretty decent-looking ones. I drove over 100 miles driving in-between the gun stores and the gun show - in one day! The employees at the counter were very helpful with my questions and friendly in general. It was obvious that more regular joe-schmos were purchasing firearms from the questions I was overhearing. Hell, I even hear women speaking about tailoring their purse to facilitate a quick draw for their guns. The gun shops' ammo and gun prices were only a few dollars more than the gun shows. The gun prices were very good as the pistols I looked at only had maybe $50 markup from 2 years ago.

The people I've encountered and speaking to were a lot better with their attitude towards firearms. It's sad when I get pity just because I'm from Cali. These people definitely love their guns and won't let their elected officials take them away. I've got 5 more days to enjoy the liberal, gun-loving environment and the damn humidity.

I just returned from a two week vacation in South Florida. I have a Florida ccw and carried the whole time I was there. Had some interaction with LEO's due to the license plate on my rental car having been stolen.

Bottom line. Florida is a great state for firearms. I did not have one problem while carrying. LEO's are great about citizens who carry as long as you handle it correctly.

    I wished I lived there!

If you see any killer handgun deals while there, let me know. My dad lives in Orlando, and can buy them and then give them to me through intra-familial transfer.

My friends and family disavow all knowledge of my existence, let alone my opinions.

Was there earlier this year for vacation, and I saw people shopping for firearms like it's no big deal over at Bass Pro - young, old, kids with parents, college aged students, male and female alike. You don't often see that variety in CA.

Check out Florida Gun Exchange's website. Know how we see the 'How to buy a firearm over the internet' links? They have a 'How to buy a class 3 item over the internet' link.

Nice! I miss living there. Except the summers of course.

            Why are silencers so expensive?

Florida is great, no doubt about it. On the ammo note, however, a little closer to home was the Reno gun show i went to this last weekend.

There was an ammo vender on Sunday that had close to the whole long wall in one building and a multi tabled section in the other building. I thought I dies and went to heaven when I saw the pallets and cases and boxes of every caliber....and to give you am idea of prices...the prices i rember were......

              1000 rds 9mm fmj $195 and
1000 rds of .40 cal fmj for $225.
              I remeber .45 at...like $18.95 for 50 fmj. $15.95 for wolf.
              .223 like $7.00 a box of 20
              .380 was like $15.00 a box...

And at near closing on the last day, they still had pallets and pallets of all the good stuff that didnt sell.....is the ammo shortage finally subsiding....

Were those pallets of ammo all factory ammo, Wolf or S&B ammo or reloads?

That's one reason I have a 03FFL. I can't get the modern stuff but if I see a SKS, a Makarov, a nice WW2 1911 I just buy it and bring it home.

Florida was sooo much better than CA on the way they "view" firearms.
