It is a good idea to train the children on gun safety. I did. They all respect the firearms, and its safety. When children know that they can see and handle guns when they want to, they are not curious about it anymore. My kids don't even look at my guns anymore. My guns are locked up and my kids have been around guns all their lives. We always looked at the guns together when they had to exercise their curiosity. These were interesting and informative sessions for all of us. In time, my firearms no longer held any mystique.
Responsible exposure and training has resulted in my kids respect for a guns usefulness as a tool, a weapon and a fun hobby. We find we always have something new to learn from others.
My youngest is now 12 and displays better understanding and gun handling than that of many I see at the ranges.
I'm more worried about my oldest driving.Comment

My dad was a cop, and he cleaned his guns, including his duty sidearm, on the kitchen table.
I grew up loving the smell of Hoppes #9.Originally posted by cockedandglockedGetting called a DOJ shill has become a rite of passage around here. I've certainly been called that more than once - I've even seen Kes get called that. I haven't seen Red-O get called that yet, which is very suspicious to me, and means he's probably a DOJ shill.Comment
