** AVOID Bear Mountain Sports - Bakersfield AT ALL COSTS

I had a Kel Tec KS7 shotgun shipped to Bear Mountain Sports. The KS7 is the single mag tube model of the Kel Tec KSG.

Without contacting me, Bear Mountain Sports shipped the Kel Tec KS7 back. The owner later claimed that the gun was illegal. She first stated that the gun was barely 26 inches long. The manufacturer lists it as 26.1 inches.

I pointed out to the owner, Cynthia Thome, that 26 inches is the legal length. She says "well, it is barely 26 inches."

She then says "I don't care what the manufacturer says, the barrel is 17" and not 18.5". I asked how she measured it; she said snidely "with a tape measure" (insinuating I'm an idiot for asking). I pointed out to her that barrel length is measured from the face of the closed breech to the end of the barrel, typically by using a dowel or rod down the barrel with the action closed. She didn't seem to understand this and said "we're not going to use a dowel nor disassemble the gun to measure it".

In essence, she is the worst kind of Fudd (and FUD) dealer who is willfully ignorant of the law. She and her staff are incompetent and give a bad name to gun dealers.

AVOID AT ALL COSTS...Morons abound at Bear Mountain Sports.

Find another dealer in the area.

Anywhere you may a need compact home defense shotgun. Intuitive features, bullpup design, downward ejection, and 7+1 capacity.

Dirty Bird or Valley Guns in Bakersfield are recommended. Bear Mt, not so much.

There’s part of the problem female gun shop owner, that alone would make me shop elsewhere. Don’t need to deal with a Karen gun shop.
Im a warmonger baby, I got blood in my eyes and I'm looking at you.

The owner can run her business as she sees fit, but it is at the expense of customers in many cases it seems.

As for the KS7, if she really believed it was illegal, it was her duty to contact law enforcement and/or surrender the gun to LE. They would have laughed at her because even ignorant LE would recognize that the gun was not contraband. By shipping it back, she perpetuated the crime of possession of a short barreled shotgun. I suspect she knows it was legal but didn't like having a scary looking black gun in her shop...I suspect they deal mostly with local yokel hunters.

Stupidity and ignorance are an obnoxious combination in the gun industry.

After Gene died, I only went into the store once and then avoided it for 10 years or so until I moved out of Bakersfield.

Found another dealer in the area who will do the transaction and acknowledged the obvious legality of the Kel Tec KS7.

Winn Corps Sales. Seems like a solid outfit. Bear Mountain Sports is an embarrassment to the industry.

Take a look at the handguns, shotguns, long guns, rifles, carbines, and AOWs we regularly keep in stock in our Bakersfield gun store.
