I have recently sold a few guns and will sell a few more. The guns that I sold were the "variety for the sake of variety" varieties (say that three times quickly, lol), such as the basic combat pistols or compacts that I will never carry.

What stays in my collection are unique and interesting guns, competition guns, something that is fun to shoot or a complete novelty, something that is interesting to own because of a unique trigger system or design. The guns that are merely tools are fun to try out in different versions, but there is no need to own many of them. It's like owning different brand hammers just because they are different brand.

I would think there are a number of people with gun collections on this site that number in the multi-hundreds.

I do wonder how they keep them safe, in storage, avoiding scratches, rust, other forms of neglect.

It is a form of a hoarding disorder.

Now that I know I have a limited time left due to stage 4 terminal cancer I have had a change of focus. My daughter and her husband want my sporting rifles and most of the pistols. I will be selling most of my mil surplus rifles and pistols in the next couple of years since they are not interested in them..
I also will be selling reloading equipment and supplies. I will 1st load up a large supply of ammo for them for the firearms they have and the ones they will keep. Example I had way too many 45-70 bullets and brass so sold some and will probably sell more. Too much 308win brass so it will go. I have started counting bullets and will get to the other brass soon. Sold my shotgun reloader and shot/wads. It will be a slow process but I plan to slim down the supplies in the next couple of years.
So yess my attitude/feeling have changed over time.
A 30cal will reach out and touch them. A 50cal will kick their butt.

Sadly, many, maybe even most, of us are going to end up facing something similar.

My nephew wants "all" of my guns; but, he is neither properly trained to use and care for "all" of them (including the reloading equipment), nor is he financially in a position to do so. Likewise, while he is currently living in a location where he would have no issue in having possession of them, there is a good chance that will change as well. Thus, I've had to adopt the attitude of "you'll get what I leave you, if anything."

I've been trying to set that against what other relatives/friends have said they'd like to see; i.e., my getting as much enjoyment out of them while I can.

Here's hoping you can create the best 'balance' you can in what time you have left.

My family is mostly not gun friendly, they wanted me to sell my guns so they can access the money after I die without having the hassle of dealing with them - multiple heart attacks here.

So, I told them I solved their problem, my will and executor will see that my gun loving friends get them.

Hope your family is happy with you, because most of mine are pissed at me.

              Yes.

              Multiple safes.
Big ones or lots of little ones.
Big ones are 4ft or wider and at least 6ft tall.
Little ones are only 5ft tall and rarely wider than 3ft.

Sorry to hear that you have stage 4 cancer.
If you don't mind sharing what kind of cancer do you have. My health hasn't been very nice to me over the last few years. I went to my primary doctor to see if there was anything we could do about my right shoulder pain.
Before I could get the surgery I needed I found out that I had stage 2 lymphoma. Before starting chemo I got shingles. Two of the 4 areas weren't shrinking during treatment. I was told I would need a second round of chemo. I decided to wait and let my body recover so I could get my shoulder repaired. After recovering from the surgery I went in for more testing. Turns out I was cancer free. They tested me again 4 months later and I was still cancer free. Now I recovering from a blood clog.
                It's crazy.
Stage 4 cancer isn't a death sentence like it was years ago. I know a few people who have beaten stage 4.
We can't change the fact that we have cancer but we can choose how to live with it. Stay positive and live every day the best you can.
My kids are convinced that I'm hiding something from them because I'm transferring guns to him how. I
I had to let my ccw expire before of health and treatments.
Just completed my 16 hours course and should be getting my ccw permit this week...
Never give up. It's OK to be scared. I cried a few times. Especially when my wife cried in front of me....

You will have lots of counting to do!!!

I will always be grateful for your invite for me to make the trip to check out your reloading methods & gear. Mounts on the walls was awesome as well. I will add you to the prayer list!!!

I left explicit instructions in my will for my heir to reach out to LSB investments to come and collect all and my heirs can negotiate the consignment values with LSB.
