      Powders have significantly different burn rates, so a generic label "+P" is not specific enough to tell what's going on. The main question is how much powder burns before the bullet exits the muzzle when the pressure starts nosediving.

      There are specialty loads for short barrels and it's not just about muzzle velocity or bullet weight. It's about burning all the powder by the time the bullet leaves.
