    Marketplace: Screening Scammers and Bots

This is aimed at veteran sellers in the CG marketplace. Mods please move if this is in the wrong sub thread.

New member here. I read much more than post and have my first sales listing up.
I do not have issue disregarding the unspecific short responses "I am interested.", "Is the price firm?".
The weird ones are the responses with a name and phone number asking for text or calls BUT, from brand new accounts with 0/1 posts. No profile pic, no sig.
    Any insights?

Anybody answering an ad for a thousand dollar Glock is a scammer.
      It's not PTSD, it's nostalgia.

I think this can go both ways. Buyers also need to be weary of new accounts with the first post being a for sale ad.

everyone starts with one post and theres been plenty of new adds to Calguns especially since 2020, if someone gives a name and number id say give them a chance you'll pretty quickly be able to figure out if they're worth dealing with or not

We know the site has been running slow.... but if you search for scams or marketplace threads, you will see a ton of threads on issues with the marketplace.

While I thing a 43X for $1,000 is Stooopid..... People can do what they want.... spend 1K for a $350 gun in most of the country....

Anywho... Advise for buying and selling - speak on the phone with the person... don't worry about flaky people.... block and move on...

Change the ad to send me your phone # in Cal Guns private messages and I will call you to discuss.

            Keep it simple.....
Rule 1- ALL GUNS ARE ALWAYS LOADED

Rule 2 -NEVER LET THE MUZZLE COVER ANYTHING YOU ARE NOT PREPARED TO DESTROY (including your hands and legs)

Rule 3 -KEEP YOUR FINGER OFF THE TRIGGER UNTIL YOUR SIGHTS ARE ON THE TARGET

Rule 4 -BE SURE OF YOUR TARGET AND WHAT IS BEYOND IT
            (thanks to Jeff Cooper)

              1) It takes all kinds....

              2) Everyone has to start somewhere...

              3) Now that most "noobs" can go buy their P365/HellCAt/etc etc OTC, there's going to be a different vibe and crowd in the Marketplace...

Generally, you can sus out wether a counterparty is legit or not, and it's easier if "first contact" has a name and a cell # to text and firm up a transaction or get further details. A short message of what you're asking - need details, making an offer, saying "I'll take it" is usual to save time.

Some other forums require a payment to enter the classified section...

The fee helps support the forum and the forum can provide the scummy parties info to the legit party...

AR15 requires a real email to join... one issued from an ISP, not Google or yahoo

I always give name and number. If buyer or seller won't talk to me no deal.

Good feedback. Thank you for the insights.
I suppose I have texted and called with plenty of mysterious numbers from Clist, so what is the harm in messaging mysterious numbers from CG?

                      Privet Message them back.
I never "text" until the deal is done.
Once the $$/time/place is set than they get a # in the PM.
Never put your # in post unless you want scammers.
Anyone can search your member name and find # if you post it.
That is how they text you...My monkey has what you are looking for send $zelle$
