    why no shipping

I'm selling 2 guns through the marketplace forum. I have never shipped but I have someone asking if I would consider it. What are the in's and out"s of shipping? What should I be cautious of?
Then if I do decide to ship, how does it work? How do I sign sellers paperwork? I assume I ship to a FF, but what steps need to happen?

But usually buyers pays before shipping.

iMO, I wouldn?t ship due to the headaches or buyer expectations once they see the gun at an FFL. I?d say FTF unless they have high iTrader or you know the buyer.

I prefer not to ship due to it being too much of a hassle.
^IMO, the time and energy required to do it, is not worth the amount of money most people will offer to pay for shipping.

Firearm must be shipped to a FFL for transfer.
Along with the firearm, you will need to include a copy of your valid State DL/ID.

Because of changes to shipping policies by UPS and FedEx, you may need to utilize a CA FFL dealer to ship the firearm.
The CA FFL dealer can legally charge any amount of money to do this.

Some people use Ship My Gun, in order to get around those policies.

When the firearm is shipped, the transfer is no longer considered a PPT.
This means the CA FFL dealer receiving the firearm can legally charge any amount of money to facilitate the transfer.

In addition, if the firearm is a handgun and is being shipped to a CA FFL dealer, then it needs to be listed on the Roster of Handguns Certified for Sale or be exempt from it (LEO, C&R, OTP, SAE, SSE2).
^If the firearm is an off-Roster non-exempt handgun, then the CA FFL dealer cannot legally transfer it to the buyer.

Also..... the big distributors have more guns on the shelf to replace shipping mishaps.

          Do you?

Really? Even if both parties are CA residents and the firearm is shipped within this state?

Your buyer sees the gun at the FFL you shipped too and decides he doesn't like it, or feels you misrepresented the condition it's in, or he didn't notice that small scratch toward the muzzle that is definitely in the pictures you posted but HE didn't notice it, or he is unable to pass the background check, etc., and now your gun is sitting at an FFL somewhere and needs to be shipped back to you...probably at your expense because, hey, "you misrepresented the condition of the gun."

Ain't nobody got time for that mess.

Careful - I've also been getting a bunch of PMs lately asking if I'll ship - most of these guys are new accounts (less than 1 year) with 0 iTrader rating (both on profile and in the iTrader subforum).

                      Not worth shipping.
Not worth buying unless saving $$
That savings will be eaten up by:
                      $75.00-150.00 FFL fee
                      $30.00-100.00 shipping
If FFL sends firearm receiving FFL will collect tax. $40.00-80.00????
Must be on roster and some upgrades will cause it to become off roster.
If the FFL can see a flat trigger and they are sure the roster version only comes with curved than off roster....no transfer.
A steel guide rod, extended magwell, cut slide for red dot any visual ques.
Internal springs or linkage most likely will passed up.

                      I have purchased from Gunbroker.
Must be saving +$300.00 or buying a roster handgun that is very hard to find local.

All handguns listed are approved with or without night sights.

PPT requires the seller to deliver in person.
                        CHAPTER 5. Procedure For a Private Party Firearms Transaction [28050 - 28070] ( Chapter 5 added by Stats. 2010, Ch. 711, Sec. 6. )

                        28050.

                        (a) A person shall complete any sale, loan, or transfer of a firearm through a person licensed pursuant to Sections 26700 to 26915, inclusive, in accordance with this chapter in order to comply with Section 27545.

                        (c) The dealer shall then deliver the firearm to the purchaser or transferee or the person being loaned the firearm, if it is not prohibited, in accordance with Section 27540.

                        (d) If the dealer cannot legally deliver the firearm to the purchaser or transferee or the person being loaned the firearm, the dealer shall forthwith, without waiting for the conclusion of the waiting period described in Sections 26815 and 27540, return the firearm to the transferor or seller or the person loaning the firearm. The dealer shall not return the firearm to the seller or transferor or the person loaning the firearm when to do so would constitute a violation of Section 27500, 27505, 27515, 27520, 27525, 27530, or 27535.

                        (e) Until July 1, 2024, if the dealer cannot legally return the firearm to the transferor or seller or the person loaning the firearm, then the dealer shall forthwith deliver the firearm to the sheriff of the county or the chief of police or other head of a municipal police department of any city or city and county, who shall then dispose of the firearm in the manner provided by Sections 18005 and 34000.

                        (f) If Commencing July 1, 2024, if the dealer cannot legally return the firearm to the seller, transferor, or person loaning the firearm, then the following procedure shall apply:

                        (1) The seller, transferor, or person loaning the firearm may request, and the dealer shall grant, that the dealer retain possession of the firearm for a period of up to 45 days so that the transferor or seller or the person loaning the firearm may designate a person to take possession of that firearm in accordance with Section 27540. This 45-day period shall be in addition to the waiting period described in Sections 26815 and 27540, and any time necessary to process a transaction.

                        (2) If, before the end of the 45-day period, the seller, transferor, or person loaning the firearm designates a person to receive the firearm and that person completes an application to purchase, the dealer shall process the transaction in accordance with the provisions of Section 27540.

                        (3) If the seller, transferor, or person loaning the firearm, does not request that the firearm be held by the dealer pursuant to this subdivision, or the firearm cannot be delivered to the designated person, the dealer, shall forthwith deliver the firearm to the sheriff of the county or the chief of police or other head of a municipal police department of any city or city and county, where the dealership is located, who shall then dispose of the firearm in the manner provided by Sections 18000, 18005, and 34000.

                        (g) (1) If a dealer retains possession of a firearm pursuant to subdivision (f), the dealer shall within 72 hours after retaining possession of the firearm, notify the Department of Justice in a manner and format prescribed by the department.
