    Doing something nice

My grandpa gave me his 1911 some time ago, and it's more of a collectors item now. Lately he's expressed interest in having another .45, but he doesn't want the 1911 back. So, I showed him the Glock 36 and he really likes it.

Hopefully I can manage to save up some money and buy this for him soon.

Has anyone else bought their father or grandfather a gun?

Bought my dad a Dillon 550 reloading press and a 24" bull AR kit after his best friend died last year.

I have given my Dad soooooo many guns....

All in secret hopes that he will give me the one gun of his I desire the most. I know, its not fancy. I can buy my own....but I want that one. Its a Ruger MK11 (?) mountain rifle feather weight something or other in .270.

Unfortunately, my dad passed before I got back into shooting. I would have, probably, because I think he would've enjoyed coming out to the range with me.

His father, who died when I was just a boy, was a gun enthusiast, reloader, NRA life member, etc.

If timing/age weren't a factor, the three of us could have had some fine times on the range and I would have loved to buy them some "tools" to add to their respective collections.

One thing I did give to my father, which he thought was special, was my USMC Marksmanship book from boot camp. I qualified as Expert and wanted him to have it because he taught me how to shoot as a kid. After he died, I found it in a box where he kept very special things.

Never gave my dad a gun, I do cherish the ones I inherited. Over the years I have given a rifle or shotgun to every family member that wanted one. Some more than one.

I am definitely on the wining end of those deals.

I built my father an AR for Father's Day/His Birthday...

I built a matching one at the same time.... it really helped us bond, and I can't think of anything I'd rather of had for an out-come.

I would if his reaction wouldn't be "why the hell isn't this a fishing boat?" .

He's a .45 person, and he wants a smaller one. Mine isn't a .45 and it's no where near small.

G30 w/ Pearce Grip Extensions FTW! Roughly the same size as a G19/23. G30sf if the G30 is too bulky-feeling.

Dang Dude, You brought a tear to my eye.

When my Dad got too ill to shoot anymore, he gave us kids all his guns, except for a pistol. About all he can do anymore is listen to our range exploits, when we're together. I have to settle for knowing that he enjoys that.
Actually I only started collecting Milsurps 3 years ago. I think I might own about 24...They're cheaper than guns that will most likely never get the opportunity to kill somebody...
