Gun Transfer Question??????

Say Bob lets john use his glock for recreational reasons. Bob moves far away, and later tells john to keep the glock. The glock is registered to BOB. John want to sell the Glock to Jerry! Can he do this ? will there be problems at the ffl dealers desk???

Bob was supposed to get the glock back, and then do a PPT DROS to John. But even though that didn't happen, CA will normally allow the PPT DROS from John to Jerry to go through. CA would rather have the registration be up to date instead of John doing another paperless transfer to Jerry.

Yes, I think they'll be issues.

The gun, according to Ca. DOJ is owned by Bob not John. Unless this "gift" happened before Jan. 1, 1991 the "transfer" has to occur at an FFL.

If I'm wrong, I'm sure somebody will chime in soon and correct me.

Seller's ownership of the gun is never a part of the equation during the transaction, only whether the gun is listed as "stolen."

I can see a lot of scenarios where the original transfer was legal (he didn't say in CA or when it happened).

I don't see an issue - unless Bob decides it wasn't a gift at all and reports the gun stolen.

I agree, I dont think they do a background on the previous owner to make sure the names line up. Only Issue I can forsee, is that Bob stole the gun from Rufas.....
