    I should be so bored.

From an story in today's Chron about an Army unit returning to Iraq.

    He looks bored.

Specialist David Arnold cleans and inspects M-4 and M-16 rifles before taking them to a shooting range to check their sights.

I have a perfect Burning Man attendance record: zero.

You do know there are more guns in the country than there are in the city.

Pretty nice office environment in which to store weapons. Our tax dollars at work, I guess.

WD-40 makes a decent breakfree type solvent, just don't use it a sa LUBE.

I use it all the time.

I thought you weren't supposed to use WD-40 cause it gums up.

I hate having to clean a large number of weapons in the arms room.

I like to clean MY guns because I get a good feeling caring for my property. But I would hate to clean dozens of them in an assembly line-like manner.

                      1) Considering what our soldiers are doing for us; putting their lives on the line every single day in order to fight terrorists that want to kill us, I don't think that giving them halfway decent office furniture is anything to get your panties in a wad over.

                      2) From what I've read, military weapons are far from babied. True, WD-40 may not be ideal, but if it works, heck. As long as the guns work when and as they are supposed to, the military doesn't really care.

My shop spent 10K on new office furniture at the beginning of this year, but when we need equipment and supplies to do our job they say they have no money. Funny how that works, huh?

We use CLP in the AF, but obviously our weapons are mostly for show. We are doing some stuff outside the wire, running convoys and perimeter security but the weapon I was issued went 4.5 months without even a round in the chamber. I have seen some pretty beat up M-4s with the specops guys coming through my terminal. I can imagine that unlike civilian owned guns they beat the heck out of the weapon untill it breaks and then they go to the armory get a new one for free. Would be nice though.

I would think the armorer would have a large ultra-sonic cleaner you could just drop them into for an hour or so, sans optics.

I can see each soldier cleaning his weapon by hand but not the armory.
                            where are my pistol mags?

The old WD40 used to gum stuff up, the newer formula is basically a cleaner since it evaporates in a day or 2. I like LPS for a quick and dirty lube, kinda for storage, to battle corrosion.
