Any reccomended BLM spots closer than Ocotillo?

Planning to take my mother shooting tomorrow and was planning a trip to Split Mountain, but it's a bit of a drive and I think it'll be a bit rough for her. I've got some coworkers that go to Pink Gate, but from what I've heard it's usually pretty crowded, so I'd rather avoid that. Anyone have any decent spots they recommend that perhaps aren't quite as far as Split Mountain? I'm in East County San Diego. Thanks!
