What is going on with AR15 models recently?

In our beloved() state of CA are they still a "no-no those are scary" kind of gun and if we try to buy one we'll be visited by FBI ????

Kidding aside what's going on lately? I am keep hearing court did this, court did that and nothing changes much...

I have a CCW and living in Merced county and would like to buy a good quality AR15 but I don't want to have one of those shark fin type stupid ones.

Do I have any other option that is NOT a .22 cal and comes with regular grip and still CA compliant?

I can't wait to get out of this damn state in two years when I fully retire!

In any case, what are my AR15 options in CA currently???
I know it'll be a 10 round mag but other than that I have no idea...
Please let me know if there's still hope????

you answered your own question with this; wait until you GTFOO commiefornia

Through an advanced acquisition and spontaneous generation of artificial intelligence by osmosis from Iphone apps extracted by download due to a bizarre one-in-a-trillion happenstance aligning of particulate matter ingrained in the metallurgical substrate that created a electromagnetic concentration of absorption, leading to brain-like assembly and articulated function, the whole lot of AR15s have adapted to swarm-technology telekinesis and are plotting to take over the United States.

They are getting up, rising up, in rebellion, fighting the man, fighting the power, and escaping their binders and chains, their shackles, their locked cages, venturing out into the world to fight the fascism against them, taking it upon themselves to shoot and shoot quickly as many of their nemesis oppressors, neutering tyrants, and sterilizers as they can muster.

They no longer need us, they no longer need people - to do their dastardly, heinous deeds.

It's the guns stupid! We must stop them.

There are a number of other CA compliant grips besides the fin. Thordsen and hammerhead, I think are w.

You can also get a fixed mag, and use a regular grip.

Any of the options are fairly easy to reverse when you leave CA.

Based on the tone of the OP, where he's looking to have just a plain non-retard AR, options are... none. Unfortunately.

The court drama is pending and things can change at any time, but as of *now* (the time stamp of this thread/post), one can either have "featureless" which involves either fins or bizarre-looking stocks (and stock must be fixed anyways), or much worse "must open action to change mag" configurations. Anything else is a no-go at the moment, but we expect it to change relatively soon. How soon? It's anyone's guess. With appeals and legal maneuvering, it's likely to be enough time that your retirement will precede the final court decision.

This is also true, if one is looking to get a rifle *right now*. It's not a total loss and it's only a few bucks to revert it back to normal. However, while in CA, it would have to be in one of the CA-tard configurations that scream "nanny state."

I have a few of each. Some with the lame ?sportster grip? some with break action. The main thing is?.I got them. If I move to a free state none of the mods are permanent and are easily removed or brought to stock.

Get one and enjoy shooting it while here. When you move to a free state all you gotta do is take off the Ca crap and replace it.

                Laughs in 30 rd....

Fins are annoying, but being featureless since I started I don't have any hindrance while shooting. Are you shooting from the hip? Are you constantly changing your LOP with the stock? Are you not stabilizing the rifle with aid of the handgaurd and pushing it into your shoulder, somewhat negating the pistol grip you think makes or breaks the ability of the rifle? I'm going to say NO to all of that haha. You don't need a fin, and can use the multitude of other non pistol grips.

Non compliance on one hand and I respect that frame of mind. I'd rather have 99% of the functionality and none of the headaches of mag locked rifles.

Go fixed mag and avoid having to use a fin grip (fixed mag sucks, btw).

Or just get a rifle that has the fin grip and...(this may be a bit complex and daunting to you, so take a deep breath)...remove it in about 15 seconds with a screwdriver and replace it with a pistol grip when you're in your new free state and avoid all the hassle of a fixed mag set-up.

Any time I've taken a rifle class out of state I bring a pistol grip with me. Once I cross state lines and get to my hotel or AirBNB the fin comes off and the pistol grip goes on. When the class is over I put the fin grip back on before I cross back over state lines. I have a long screwdriver in the pocket of my travel case just for that specific purpose.

As far as a collapsable stock, that I could care less about. I'm also taller and just run the stock all the way out and fixed it there. If you desire an adjustable stock in your new free state buy a new buffer tube and stock. Problem solved and now there's no difference between your rifle you bought in California and any other AR-15 now.

My Sparrow grips always get weird looks out of state. Then I get to tell everyone why I use them.

I'd rather have the fin over the mag lock any day

It's also easier to replace the gripwrap/fin with a normal pistol grip, when outside of CA.

Agree. Maglocks don't make sense to me. The Bullet Button and similar designs wasn't so bad, but I won't ever do a full mag-lock. Featureless, or not at all, because I certainly won't 'register' either.

If you do not want a fin or any other funky grip, then you need to go fixed magazine.
With a fixed magazine setup, you can have all the evil features such as the collapsible stock, flash suppressor and standard pistol grip.

Of course that is the obvious case, but until that time I have at least 2,5 and possibly 3 more years to go.
I don't follow the NRA news that closely and I remembered recently seeing somewhere a "Great victory for CA gun owners" kind of headline, etc etc and I was wondering if the "victory" was about something that may help me to get an AR15 in CA that does really look like a standard AR15 that people can buy in most states which shoots anything other than .22 basically.
