I got charged a $180 restocking fee in 5 min

    Hi folks,

    Please help me out...
I purchased a Kriss Vector on Gunbroker, and right after making the payment, I noticed that it was 10mm instead of the 9mm I wanted.
I immediately messaged the seller to cancel the order and then called them to explain the situation; they agreed to cancel the order. The whole process took 5-10 minutes, including before and after.

There are no 'Terms of Sale' in their Gunbroker store, and they did not mention a restocking fee on the phone.
After the weekend, I received my refund and noticed that it was $179.99 less than what I paid. I called the seller they told me that there is a restocking fee.

    *update

The store owner called me and explained the reason for the fee. The responses in this post are accurate
they are facing difficulties in refunding the fee from GB, and they have also incurred a loss in their advertising fee.

I completely understand the situation. Since the mistake was mine, I take full responsibility for those fees.
The store owner is a very kind person and has offered to send me some magazines to help cover part of my loss.

Is this a normal charge in my situation?"
Why didn't you tell them to ship a 9mm instead of canceling the order?

If bidding determines the final price - how can it be overpriced?

There are certain Buy-It-Now pricing that are overpriced, but it's often paired with a much lower starting bid price.

Shill bidding is easy to spot if you hone skills on how to identify it, so that's not much of an issue either.

And Gunbroker's 1% fee typically does not incurr a much higher cost than brick and mortar retail.

Of course, this mostly applies to select rare, specialty, or obscure items, or if you deal with local CA seller posting on Gunbroker, that has a shop where you can purchase/DROS with them (so no transfer fee/no shipping.)

It's not going to compete with a local Turners retail pricing on on-Roster average Glocks and Hi-Points when you would be paying a transfer fee on top of the winning bid price.

I've gotten amazing deals on Gunbroker over the years and continue to do so. Just need to be more particular about bidding and purchases now.

                  That is reasonable to me

They can contact the next highest bidder or start a new auction

It's this: because Gunbroker is nearly impossible to get customer service and account credits on the seller side for auctions/sales that don't pan out or need to be returned/reimbursed. Gunbroker still logs their fees.

THAT aspect of Gunbroker, the customer service and communication with sellers, has gone to hell. It was never really good, but has gotten terrible the past few years.

How much would you have lost selling the 10mm?

Yeah, they suck wrt this issue. Getting the fees back from a legit flake is near impossible. I put in upper case NO PAYPAL in 2 or 3 places in all my ads. Like clockwork, 2 or 3 people per year will insist on using paypal and then reneg when you tell them to send a money order like the ad said. IF you do everything perfectly, it takes 3 or 4 different requests, with perfect timing, to get a fee refund.

I sorta wish they would receive the money, deduct fees, etc and send the rest to the sellers. No way they will do that of course, because then they can't screw anyone out of fees.

Same situation happened to me but it took less than 3 minutes to change my mind.

A Dave Ramsey type of pre-installed app notified the real decision maker about purchases
over 5 bucks and she's notified in a split second.

I don't get it. If GB fee is only 6% (or less) where is $180 coming from in a sub-$2000 sale?

AFAIK "re-stocking fee" is like when it gets delivered, THEN returned to their receiving dock and one of their apes has to figure out WTF back on shelf to "re-stock". Sounds like they shouldn't even charge you an "unwrapping" fee since they didn't even have time to pull for shipping.

Since most sellers on GB are FFL if not LGS with their own little websites, and if GB isn't providing any real services or guarantees, whats to stop customers from eyeballing an item on GB, then using Google Maps on phone to find Bubba's Guns in Flyover, TN and calling them and saying "youse gots (some gun) in stock?, can you ship to my FFL if I pay with CC over phone?"
