    RemArms closing down the plant

RemArms formerly Remington is shutting down production. Looks like they are finished.

After 195 years, RemArms announced it was shuttering operations at its Ilion factory, affecting hundreds of employees

Article says they are closing the old plant in New York and expanding the new one in Georgia. Wonder if the politics of either state was part of it. Sounded like RemArms is still in business.

Damn, reading through that article, I cannot help but be angry how those dedicated workers in Ilion were shafted. Work hard, give your life and heart, and at the first chance they ditch you without compensation.

AFAIK, that is not how workers are treated in South Korea, Japan, Taiwan, and Malaysia when there is retrenching.

If you read the articles key points about the NY site challenges, including needing a steam generator for production, multi-floors and inefficient hand-off processes mostly due in part to the legacy building not conducive to efficient production - you get this decision where costs > revenue.
That's not sustainable and given the history and structure of that building, there's no way to make that site more efficient. And, that's before all the restrictive and anti-gun laws and policies of NY.
Sad, but those are the times we live in unless we all can vote out these loser political 'leaders' in our states. (I live in CA, so I definitely know what I'm talking about here...)
Off my soapbox now - thanks for the spotlight...

It?s difficult to blame them for this decision. It?s just like all of us want to leave this miserable state.

Smart business decision. Why would corporations stay in a state that is unfriendly to their business.

That plant is very old, difficult to maintain, heavily taxed, and in a gun hostile environment.

Change had to happen eventually. I hate to see such traditional manufacturing sites fall, though.

I?d like to think RemArms is turning stuff around and will expand elsewhere but every time I see an announcement like this it?s shortly followed by failure.

Many gun and accessories companies have made moves like this over the last 10~15 years. It's one thing to maintain an existing functional facility in a 2A hostile state. It's quite another to invest in modernizing an obsolete and/or unsuitable facility in a 2A hostile state. That's not even taking into account all of the environmental and employment related regulations on top of the 2A animosity.

I think Rem is making a good move and I hope that they offer attractive relocation packages to the NY factory folks whose skills can be put to use in Goergia.

Bet they wished they had moved 30 years ago.

I think it’s about time they get out of NY. The green meanies are making life difficult everywhere. I hope they get moved and bounce back.

It's not only gun/ammo companies that are moving out of leftist states, it's companies of all kinds that are moving out of leftist states. Especially unionized companies. I can't fault them one bit.
