Recently sold a gun to my annuity guy who lives in Pennsylvania. Found out UPS will not ship a gun from someone without a gun shipping contract with them. So decided to use shipmygun.com.
They have 2 lists. Regular FFL that they know nothing about except that they are an FFL. And a preferred list where they have the FFLs license on file.
My buyer wanted to use an FFL that was not on file. Had FFL and the site on the phone. License is emailed to an address that is not on the website. Site updates their list on Thursdays and sometimes Tuesday. These phone calls and email occurred on a Friday. No update on the following Tuesday. No update on the following Thursday. Called site Friday to ask. Lady said they had the info but it was only available to Bud?s Guns. Apparently the site is connected to Bud?s. Lady said she would mark the info as available to the site.
Info showed up Sunday. Went through the process. Was told would be sent the label on Monday after a human review. Got the email on Monday with PDF for label and a PDF with a letter. The letter explained that sometimes the local UPS person may not want to ship a gun. The letter said to show the letter to the person. It contained a statement from a UPS honcho saying shipmygun.com can ship using UPS. If that failed there was a phone number for the honcho that one was to call while at the counter. The only way to tell the shipment might be a gun is the word Gun in the address name.
Packed up the gun and headed to UPS depot. It was a cluster F at UPS but nothing to do with my shipment. When it was my turn worker just scanned my label and printed my receipt. Did not bat an eyelash.
Package to be delivered Wednesday. Turns out FFL is closed Wednesday. Got delivery exception email. Delivered Thursday. Buyer picked it up later that day.
Site and UPS fee totaled $41 for a small UPS box to PA. My FFL wanted $60+ to ship for me. I assume they would have to enter it into their book and then ship FFL to FFL.
Whew, what an experience!
