    It's starting

Looks like the new laws are going to work the way the legislature was hoping.

The First LGS Hook Line & Sinker in Oakley, that I know of is closing up shop, due in part to a large rent increase, and new state regulations. Mainly the new law on video audio recording that would have cost in the neighborhood of $10,000 in just new equipment costs. I doubt that this will be the last shop that we will see close up either.

Definitely sad to see them go but I’m not totally surprised. I’ll certainly miss them, especially for their used/consignment guns.

We often forget most small business are not institutions that survive their original owners.

At least Sportsman's, Bass Pro, and Turners will survive

They will (maybe reluctantly) follow the most extreme of states' laws

Mostly the new video audio recording. The initial outlay for equipment cameras with audio to cover the areas of the store that need to be covered was in excess of $10,000 from what I was told. That only included bare minimum storage that probably wasn't going to be enough, because at this point it's best guess how much storage space will be necessary.

The other factor that pushed the owner to the decision was a rather significant rent increase.

I'm sure the feeling is that the new gun tax hitting us next July would impact the business negatively factored in also.

That's too bad. I always hate seeing a LGS close down.

I was in Big-5 yesterday for ammo. They had a sign saying they will stop selling firearms after December 10. They will continue to sell ammo, however.

After this law was passed, I spoke with the manager, and she said it would cost many thousands per store to comply; hence, their decision to cease selling guns.

I can count 6 or 7 LGS that went out of business in last 5 years around my work in Rancho Cordova. Tough business and even more in CA

That can be said for Martin B. Retting for sure.

                        That's not a benefit, that's a curse.

Like in the film 'Demolition Man' where all restaurants are now a Taco Bell.
