    Issue Shipping a Firearm

I dropped off a rifle with a local FFL to be shipped to LA. 10 day later the rifle still hasn't been picked up by FedEx.

    Here's the facts:

I dropped off a rifle on Saturday November 18th and was told that they would email on Monday the 20th with the tracking information.

On the 21st I hadn't heard anything back so I called and talked to the guy that does the shipping. He stated that it was all packaged up and ready to ship and that it should be "picked up today".

On the 22nd I called multiple times and left multiple messages when I was transferred to voicemail.

On the 24th I went in person and was told that the rifle had already been shipped and was picked up "earlier this week". I insisted that they give me the tracking information. I had to wait while they located the information and they finally gave me a tracking number.

Before I left I input the tracking number and it stated that the tracking number didn't exist. When I asked for more information, they told me that it was probably an issue on FedEx's end and to wait for it to update.

On the 25th I checked the tracking once again and it said "label created 11/24/2023 at 12:45 pm" which was right after I demanded tracking information and 6 minutes before the tracking number was provided to me.

I spent the 27th in the ER and wasn't feeling well enough to follow up again.

Today the tracking still says "label created" so I called them again...I was transferred and no surprise sent to voicemail.

I called back and insisted on speaking to a manager. They said the would take a message and have the manager call me back... I refused that option and explained the situation so they put me on hold until a manager took my call.

Anyway, after 18 phone calls and multiple trips to their store, I finally was informed that the rifle is still there and should be picked up by FedEx today.

The manager apologized and said that they would address the issue and try to make it right...

Meanwhile, the guy in LA who is supposed to receive the rifle has been extremely patient. I'm glad it is a friend of mine and not a random stranger who would think I was scamming them...

    TLDR;

Dropped off rifle to be shipped, they lied to me about shipping it, 10 days later still not shipped.

My question to the Calguns community is two-fold:

What would you expect from the FFL to "make this right"?

    and:

Should I leave a negative Yelp/Google review explaining what happened?

I personally, would not expect anything but a sincere apology. If they can't do that, the future business they lost from me is harmful enough whether they know of the loss, or not.

IMHO it all comes down to their attitude towards you, and their error. If it was a real mistake, and they are truly sorry then bygones... stuff happens.

Negative google reviews are a biggie IMHO, I rarely do them unless it is really well deserved.

I just had a well known manufacturer screw up my black friday order. He called me this morning, apologized and promised to ship out the missing part. That was good enough for me

We all make mistakes at some point, the way we deal with them defines our character.

BTW - If it was Turner's, everything I just said goes out the window

you paid them for a service they failed to provide within a reasonable time. bad reviews are in order unless they refund some or all of any service fee they charged

I would give a bad review. Explaining what happened. Why not??
        They LIED to you.

Unacceptable. Even if they're a gun friendly supporter of the 2A

Bud?s has a service called ship my gun that a guy who has sold me a couple rifles has been pretty happy with. I think it?s a standard ups pickup, but easier for them to arrange instead of us since ups? policies have changed. When shipping firearms to ffls, I usually just use usps. Super easy, even if the heart of the bay. Last time I did it I had a nice conversation with the mail carrier about the start of duck season since I picked up my duck stamp at the same time.

Last time I talked to a gun shop about doing the packing and shipping for me (for a warranty issue on a rifle they had sold me a couple weeks before no less), they quoted an exorbitant fee and I had no faith in their competence after they listed a sks? model as an ?interarms? on a dros. I chose to ship it myself. There are good gun shop employees out there, but I don?t run into them often.

Is it that hard to ship a rifle? They had to leave it sitting around for over 10 days?

              Finally got some updated tracking:

11/29 at 1:54PM it was listed as "we have your package".

              It should arrive 12/01

The manager still hasn't reached out to me to "make it right". There has been zero contact from them so far.

They have handled the whole situation atrociously.

This is normally how I feel. It is the fact that they lied to me that I can't really get past. When I called them out for lying, they doubled down on the lies and continued to lie to me.

I don't go to Turner's for any reason, I can assure you that it wasn't there...

I think I'm going to leave the bad review. They haven't even reached out to me as they promised they would.

Pretty ridiculous if you ask me... I worked for an FFL in SD for several years, it's really not hard to do. It's also really easy to NOT lie to your customers.

I just scanned through the thread. I missed the part where the FFL was named. You paid for a service and were continually lied to. The FFL needs to be named to save others. And yes, you should have used Ship My Gun. Easy peasy and cheap.

Long guns can be sent via the USPS (even in California).. No need to involve any FFL, and it's much cheaper than using a FFL.
                    Poke'm with a stick!

                      Update:

Rifle was finally received in LA on 12/01

After many voicemails, messages, and a promise that someone would reach out to me to "make things right"...I still haven't heard from anyone.

After being lied to and ignored, I feel like they made it very obvious that they don't care about their customers.

Sacramento Gun Range has permanently lost me as a customer.

I will spend my money somewhere else.
