But i'm not sure if I would do it because someone said that "Most of the aftermarket stocks do not have a cross bolt like the wood stock. With out the cross bolt some stocks let the barreled action move around, and thats bad for accuracy".

i have the stock and the buffer. the stocks pretty cool,it looks the best with a fixed 10/20 magazine on it tho.the buffer pretty much just makes no difference other than the bolt doesnt hit the back of the cover so it doesnt make a dinging sound.

the stock has nothing to do with that recoil buffer. All it does is shorten the distance the bolt travels on recoil making it easier to short stroke. The SKS is fine the way it was made. No need to add a recoil buffer into it. If you need to do something add a firing pin return spring like the one from Murray's gunsmithing. Less chance of slamfire even if the firing pin channel cleaning condition is adverse.

+1. Don't forget stripper clips. Those are fun at the range. My buddy has a raddlocked AK and couldn't believe how much faster I can reload than him when we're having fun...

Plus i'm not very knowledgeable of the sks even though I had it for 12yrs lol. My first rifle when I turned 18.

From what I've been told and read, the buffer is only useful if the bolt carrier is still slamming into the back of the receiver after replacing a weakening recoil spring.

The return spring is inside of the receiver cover. If you're talking about the FP return spring, that is inside of the actual Firing Pin Block on older Russian SKS' only unless you get the Murray's modification. The recoil buffer is not necessary. As has already been mentioned in this thread, the only thing worth doing to an SKS is the Murray's mod on the firing pin and a bunch of stripper clips. You could tacticool it out, but honestly I'd save up and pick up an AR or AK for tacticooling... the SKS is a great battle rifle in its original configuration and runs well as such.

Unless you've broken down your SKS firing pin before, you may want to just send yours into Murrays and have them install the FP return spring.

www.centerfiresystems.com has stripper clips, along with the chest pouches that you can get to hold them.

Tacticooling is where you add "tactical" accessories to something that doesn't necessarily need them. It looks cool and they may help to some extent, but they are not needed.

No you cannot use detachable mags.
