    Ruger covertible 357/9mm

Looked around but can't seem to find the answer I was looking for.

Q: Barring accuracy (speaking 9mm cyl) can 380 (short 9mm) be actually be shot (without any damage to firearm) through the 9mm cylinder?

    Just curious.

Being that the 9mm normally headspaces on the case mouth, if you tried shooting 380 without moon clips, no. With moon clips, the base of the 380 case is held in the same spot as the 9mm would so yes.

However the Ruger convertible does not use moon clips so the answer is no, 9mm only.

This is the page that states no moon clips necessary which also means 380 not possible

No reason to shoot 380 in this gun unless you don't have any 9mm available. 9mm ammo is cheap and low recoil in this gun.

This! .380 costs more, and is often harder to find range ammo in stock.

Maybe you could get 380 to fire if you pointed the gun up and tapped it between shots. Maybe the case might move too much and take too much off the firing pin energy. But if they did fire, it would not hurt the gun.

Thinking of purchasing the Ruger convertible.

I ask this only to find if, 4 different rounds can be used in one fire arm.

          I have a 380, & a lot of food for it.

            Nice gun.

9mm case is slightly tapered, .380 is not. Also, like previously posted, that gun doesn’t use moon clips, so the .380 round wont be held in the right spot for the firing pin to strike the primer. So only three rounds for that gun: .357 mag/.38 special/9mm luger (which is plenty good)
