Yeah, time of flight would have to be upwards of 10-12 seconds AT LEAST. And yet, the video of the shot from the SH thread shows ToF to be like 2 seconds lol. But I don't know if it's the same "shot". I think there are like 2 or 3 different world record claims being thrown around from Ukraine right now.

Thanks for the link. I saw that - it is about a sniper shot a year ago, so I thought it was the wrong one - but I see the last page has some posts about this newer incident.
Lots of angry people there.Comment

Yeah the Bear Pit section on SH (off topic) is full of really angry people. But in general, it's the best resource on the web for long-range shooting if you can see past the a-holes.Comment

The Bear Pit sounds like a gay bar.Comment

Without more parameters, I sure don't understand how it's a "world record". Was it a cold bore shot? If not, how many siters were fired? Every time one of these claims comes up, it's normally a hit after many misses. Hell, I could set up a M2 and just keep firing at a group of combatants who are 5000 metes away and, when I hit one, I could claim a new "world record", does that sound right?NRA Certified Pistol, Rifle, Shotgun and Metallic Cartridge Reloading Instructor

Frank from Bartlein Barrels just posted in that SH thread saying they sent their barrels over to Ukraine for this rifle. I believe that. What I don't believe is a rifle round with a 3200fps muzzle velocity traveling 1.68 miles in under 3 seconds.Comment

The rifle is able to send a lethal bullet that far, no question. (But honestly I remember a woman in Eugene back in late 80?s being killed by a 308 or 30-06, I forget which, from over 3 miles away because some idiot in the hills fired out into the valley and it randomly struck her). The question remains though if the guy hit what he was aiming at, if this shot was actually the range they said it was (flight time says otherwise by at least 3x), and how many shots had he taken in the past (was this his 500th shot into a crowd and one finally connected?). With their past world records being proved to be fake, I?m going to throw this in with the first day of Ghost of Kyiv reporting believability.NRA Patron Life MemberComment

The video of one of the shots is in the OP of that SH thread. Looks like a solitary person walking along some trees. Stops to take a piss or something. Shot goes out, under 3 seconds later you can see the target go down. Not a crowd or anything. I think it's real... BUT I also think the range is much shorter than being reported. Probably less than 1,000 yards. The rifle is able to send a lethal bullet that far, no question. That latest video has three purported people, one supposedly going down before the others react, I couldn't really tell - blurry film and my poor eyesight.
No idea if they sped up the timelapse - but nowhere near 12 seconds.Comment

^the video that claims to be this, on reddit, shows 3 guys standing next to each other (barely, it's quite fuzzy at that range). And it's a solid 10 seconds or so, from shot, before the one guy falls and other two flinch/duck. I think people are looking at different videos.Comment

This is basically a wildcat round (14.7x114, necked down to .50). An article on this rifle from TFB back in 2021, said they were working on powder that could push it at much as 3900 fps. That is smoking hot for a 750gr pill. Of course I have no idea if they worked that out. But even if not, since the video I saw had 10+ second flight time, it seems plausible to me anyhow. I'm no long distance shooter, but seems correcting for windage is always harder than elevation, so shooting at 3 guys standing next to each other would increase your odds. You wouldn't have to tell anyone you actually aimed at the left guy...Comment

I think we're talking about two different videos. There are at least 3, maybe 4, different long-range claims coming out of Ukraine right now. The one I saw was a solitary guy (taking a piss?) and the claim was 1.68 miles. Time of flight was under 3 seconds. So... not believable to me.This is basically a wildcat round (14.7x114, necked down to .50). I totally believe they're using this weapon platform. And that they're making kills with it. But I think they are grossly exaggerating the distances for propaganda's sake.Comment
