    Maverick 88 or 870 Tactical

If anybody has seen these guns for sale, locally in the East Bay Area, let me know. I?ve been looking forever and been bumping on ad in the want to buy section for a long time.

Any help is appreciated. I need a defensive shotgun with a 18.5 or 20 inch barrel.

A couple of the ones I spoke to told me that all of their distributors were sold out. Not sure if I believe that. You can?t weasel the weasel. I see them online at Sportsmans warehouse and I wonder. My friend tried to order a lower there earlier this week and they said it was in the store.

He drove all the way to the store and then it was not in stock like it said it was. So he ordered it online and then three days later they canceled his order because they said it wasn?t available. I?d like to find one locally or a Mossberg 500 for that matter.

Hook up another funky fresh brother!!!

I would definitely order it on Sportsmans. I?m just afraid it might not show up. Have you had experience ordering through them?

Honestly, I sold my 870. They don't make them how they use to. It would constantly jam with cheap Winchester birdshot.

I kept my Maverick 88, it eats anything.

If you got with an 870, get an older one.

+1 on the Maverick. I’ve never had any issues with feeding it cheap ammo. It goes bang every time and was dirt cheap.

Although I don’t own an 870 the newer ones are definitely not made as well as the older ones. My friend’s is totally unreliable with cheap ammo. The hulls jam up the pump and you have to wait until it cools down to pry it out.

I got my Maverick 88 at Walmart. I don't know if they sell shotguns there in kali. Call the Milpitas store and see. Big 5 is another place to check.

Isn't the Mossberg 500 a step up from the Maverick for a little more money? I have the Thunder Ranch that no longer looks like a Thunder Ranch after the changes I made. It goes bang every time I ask it to.
My 870 is an older version. Works flawlessly. Bought if off a SBD.Co deputy years ago. Came loaded with all the Mesa Tactical goodies. Stock, side saddle, front sling/light attachment. $450 and it had never been shot!! Built but never used. Winning!!

The 870 is just curious to me. I bought a tactical one a half dozens years back or so. The construction is whatever and it runs okay. What gets me though is Remington?s complete lack of interest in building a real gun. Mine came as 4+1, which, why? I got the extension which was a pain to add because the 4+1 tube had dimples that had to be removed because, why? Then I tried to shoot it with bead sights. I added the trijicon ghost rings for a hundred bucks and some change to have them installed and it?s a nice gun. I bumped the stock and the swivel mount immediately broke off.

All that?s to say that in this day and age, for 450 or whatever, you can get a lot more useable a gun from Mossberg. Getting the gun to the point where it was usable to me wasn?t too expensive, but it?s getting to the point of an A300 which is a way better and way more functional gun than an 870.

Remington just seems like they want to take a hunting gun, throw a 20 or 18 inch barrel with no ribbon it and call it good enough. Maybe 30 years ago but that?s not enough now.
