    03 FFL Verification?

Found some ammo I need online in another state. Called them before placing order to verify that they will accept 03 FFL + COE. They said yes, no problem. I place order and send them copies of both. Fast forward a few days and I get an email telling me they are trying to verify my FFL with ATF using some online tool and it's getting kicked back as a potentially fraudulent FFL number...

I went to ATF website and had a look and it clearly states that the system is not for validating 03 FFLs... But this gun shop won't ship me my order unless they can verify my 03 FFL number. What do? I've never had to provide some sort of proof that my 03 FFL is real before. And this shop told me they ship to 03 FFLs... and yet they're trying to verify my FFL number using a database that is clearly not for that.

Interested too. I remember there was a certain way they have to check, but I can't remember the specifics now.

BATFE eZCheck toll free telephone number, 1-877-560-2435 is the recommended way to verify an 03FFL.

That number goes to a voicemail of a woman who says "this number is only monitored by one person?me." And then tells you to call the general ATF customer service number. I doubt one person is able to handle all FFL checks for the entire country lol

"FFL eZ Check does not validate Type 03 (Collectors of Curios and Relics) and Type 06 (Manufacturer of Ammunition) licenses. All attempts to check the validity of Type 03 and Type 06 licenses will result in an error message, even though the licenses may be valid. An FFL should not use this error message as reason to deny dealing with a Type 03 licensee."

There's only one other store that I can find in the country with this ammo too. And they're also kinda iffy with California customers. Will have to wait until Monday I guess.

I kinda ran into this recently.
I found into a website that would not let me upload my 03/COE because it would not verify through ez-check but specifically stated that they would ship to 03/COE in California.
They had the best price I could find for specific ammo I was seeking.
They would not let me checkout without an online verified FFL.

What I did was select my local 01 FFL from their "approved" list but then I emailed them my FFL and COE instead of my local FFL's 01.
The seller eventually contacted my by email asking if they could simply ship to the address on my 03 instead of the 01FFL that I did not send them the license for.
This was my workaround for their horrible website that would only ship to FFL's that they already have on file in their database.
It added a few days to the process, but the ammo eventually arrived.

Nothing you can do if they refuse to accept it.

A store is not required to ship to FFL03+COE (or to anyone else), so it's up to them to decide who they'll ship to and what they'll accept as a proof. The best bet is to talk to them and ask them what they would like to see as the proof, then see if you can provide it. But in the end, it will be their call, unfortunately.

That's not really the main issue. They say they accept 03 FFL. But they need ME to prove to THEM that my 03 FFL is real.

Success! Spoke to shop again and had them call their local ATF office. Ammo has been shipped.

Suggest you post this as a PSA in the Curio-Relic forum with a link to this discussion. Others may benefit.

Yes, you cannot use the online tool for FFL verification for 03FFL. We (03FFL) are not in that database. Many of us encountered this when the ammo law went into affect. Some sites claimed people were forging their 03FFL, and since they could not verify online no sales to the state.
